COMPREHENSION READING: Bad company corrupt Good Mind

Jaye was a good boy and was loved by many teachers and students for his humility and good conduct. Many parents envied his parent and wanted their children to be like him.

He was the most decent, and hardworking student in his class and in the school. Right from when he was enrolled in the school, no bad conduct was recorded about him and he never was a boy who would disobey his teachers or parents.

In his Senior Secondary School Three, he was given the Senior prefect of the school and Jaye made sure never to disappoint the school or student who looked up to him.

Something changed when Dickson the new boy became Jaye's friend. Teachers were so surprised to see Jaye associate himself with Dickson who was mischievous, rude, disobedient and dirty and they tried to talk Jaye out of the relationship but he didn't listen to anybody.

Since he was a boarder who lived in the school hostel, the teachers had to call the attention of his parents but Jaye wouldn't listen. He turned into a notorious boy and never came to class early. His result were becoming poor and it disturbed his teachers.

one night, at about eleven o'clock the housemaster was going round the school compound to check the school compound and to make sure all the students were on the bed when he noticed two figures moving under the school mango tree.

At first, the housemaster was scared and thought of alighting the school security just in case they were thieves but when he drew closer with his torch, he noticed the figure looked like young schoolboys.

When the figure noticed another movement that wasn't theirs, they started running faster and climbed the wall of the fence and hid at the other side of the fence. The headmaster couldn't meet them so he thought of what to do to be sure of what he saw.

He went into the dormitory to count the students inside and made sure those people where were caught and punished. While the roll call was taken, the housemaster noticed that Jaye and Dickson were absent. He felt disappointed and wouldn't want to believe that Jaye had gotten himself into a mess like this.

The next morning, the housemaster went to the principal office and reported all he saw and the roll call he made which confirmed that the two figures were Jaye and Dickson.

While in the assembly hall, the principal called the two boys out and asked them to confess to the crime which they did and they were asked to go back home and bring their parents.

Dickson being a notorious boy decided to lie that his parent was not around and had traveled but it was soon found out that he was lying.

Dickson was expelled and Jaye was stripped of his position as the senior prefect and suspended for two months because he was once a good student.

His parents, teachers, and parents were disappointed in Jaye and Jaye felt bad because he knew he had failed so many people down.
