So today is May the 4th and it is well known as International Star Wars day so to all my fellow Hivians May the 4th be with you on such a glorious day. Be safe and prosperous on your journe. Seeing today is International Star Wars day I thought it would be well placed to talk about our favourite Star Wars movies.

It is of no light task as there have been many since the first one A New Hope in 1977 which took the world by storm instantly creating an international block buster and brought with it advancements in technology and sound.

Did you know the sound of the Laser is of a rod hitting a high tension steel wire. It was a support for something and when investigating sounds out on a walk one of the sound guys hit the wire with a rod, as one does. The rest is history and now we have an iconic pew sound!

There were also advances in filming, Star Wars was the first film to move the camera past the ship instead of the ship past the camera on a fishing line. Gave it a whole new world of visuals.

Beyond all the awesomeness that is Star Wars I have a favourite, it almost got beaten by Rogue One that was an epic film on all fronts. But Return of the Jedi still takes centre stage for me. Not only by the third film was technology alot more advanced the story line took a turn. It was never intended for Darth Vadar to he Luke's Dad or princess lea his sister. All that added to the surprises as we had no way of knowing what was coming next!

When Luke Skywalker enters the film he does so dressed all in black and emerging as a darker character, one that is powerful. It is here that he begins to showcase his transition to the dark side. As all Star Wars films our main characters are always fighting themselves in order to remain good.

He goes to rescue his friends and is captured but throughout the entire process he is calm and ready to fight just waiting for his moment.

But it is the films end that is the biggest plot twist as we had heard that Darth Vadar was the chosen one who was supposed to bring balance to the force. But through the whole film Darth Vadar has been attempting to turn his son to the dark side. Darth Vadar is one of the most powerful jedi or sith in the Galaxy but he has a soft side.

We don't see the full extent of it until the final moments when Darth and his son go head to head in one last battle. The Emperor informs Luke that soon his friends the rebels will all perish and so will he. Firing lightling bolts at Luke Darth Vadar begins to weaken as he watches the emperor kill his son.

In the end Darth Vadar turns and throws the emperor off the ships not sure what room it is and into the engine bay. Killing the emperor (so we thought)

Balance is brought to the force and Anakin joins the former jedi force ghosts as he has turned good.

It is here where the story emerges that good is always balanced by evil and vice versa. Too bad it's almost 30 years later that we get to see the end occur with Ray. The emperors daughter undertaking the final shot.

But if we've learned anything its that this is not the end and the force is always balanced so no doubt we will see new adventures but those without the skywalkers. Will it be any good? Only time will tell.

I sit here in hope for a Darth Vadar movie and then I can say I've finally seen a better film. For now Disney is absolutely killing it with the franchise expansion with the Mandalorian.

What about yourselves, what was/is your favourite Star Wars film and why?

Killing the emperor

That's the canon I'll stick with.

It's just cheap to bring Sidious back in the new movies. It voids all meaning from Anakin's journey.

Yup, I don't know why they did it. I know big family reveal at the end but it kind of undoes the ending of Return of the Jedi.

Either way May the 4th be with you
