Altered Carbon a key reson why I hate T.V

Altered Carbon, wow! What a series and how awesome was it a true Cyberpunk genre. To be honest Cyberpunk is something what the world will probably be like in the future and not really a utopian future where tech advances society to be free and clean. It will still be dirty, drug fueled pursuit of sex and violence.

The whole adage of haves and have nots will always continue, just a human nature issue. There will always be crime as long as there are people and depending on the laws of the era crime will be different to what it is today or was in the past.

But enough about Cyberpunk genre which is totally awesome and builds on Sci fi. I want to talk about Altered Carbon.

We meet the star of the show Takeshi Kovacs who we learn is a solider turned good guy who fights against the current new age war against the world power who is controlling everyone and everything.

In this world no one dies instead an alien technology allows people to transfer their consciousness to another body called a sleeve.

In my opinion it's the only show that has successfully been able to change lead actors and seamless include them in the story line as if nothing had occured.

In season one as the story begins to unfold Kovacs is booted up in a sleeve to undertake an investigation, after being sent to prison for what he thought would be eternity he is quickly on the hunt for someone inorder to regain his freedom.

The fight scenes and tech used are beautifully integrated and the budget has been estimated at $7Million per episode.

A factor in Netflix's decision to cancel the show, which is why I am so devastated. It feels like the world is inundated by crappy reality T.V shows like the Kardashians and shows like Tiger King amassed millions of viewers. Just utter garbage in my opinion.

Yet time and time again we are graced with great shows that go to the chopping board because they fail to attract viewers.

Season 2 got even better when we got to see Kovacs enter a super solider sleeve with added features and abilities. Again he was on the hunt to find an assassin or he ended up being blamed for it.

A great T.V show, one that I was in the hopes of watching more of this fantastic Cyberpunk world unravel with stories but I won't be able to anymore :( 😞

Netflix decision to cancel the show after 18 episodes made headlines as many took to Twitter and social media to air their frustrations and without a solid reason why it was cancelled but it is thought that the costs were a big reason behind the decision.

Did you get into Altered Carbon, was it a show you enjoyed? What are some of the shows highlights and what will you miss most from it?

Season 2 definitely picked up where we found the source of the alien tech and I was really hoping for the show to peak more. But another one bites the dust and we are left without an adequate ending.

I only saw the first season and it felt tremendous to me the first half. The cyberpunk world it built was amazing to gawk at. But as soon as that 'sibling bout' entered into play, I lost interest and latter half felt really boring.

Not sure if I'm going to see the new season.

Yeah, I didn't know how that was going to pan out. It's a very old out dated story line that they rehashed. But I didn't mind it.

I think it was lil rushed at times but I did like the somewhat Yakuza twist on the underworld saga. I'm a big fan of the AI lol

I was hoping for a 3rd season, perhaps maybe a movie will be made.

Lol! Not a fan of that storyline, either. It made his sister into such a 'big' villain when the story didn't need it. The events surrounding Bancroft's attempted murder were interesting enough to keep the story going.

Lol, about reality shows. Worry not, Keeping Up With The Kardashians is on it final season 😆. I don't watch much reality shows. But action and sci-fi movies? One of my favs! I have not seen Altered Carbon though.

From this teaser, you have my attention already! I'll go find it and watch. Imagine a world where we don't die but just change sleeves? Nice! 🙂

Immortality! Amazing.

The first and last episode of Kardashians I watched was one where Kim was bleaching her sisters arsehole and I was like wtf.... this is a T.V show? More like softcore porn.... it was a joke of a show. Not sure how it lasted so long

I enjoyed season 1 more than 2 but i still thought it was good and that they would make a season 3. Netflix has been ruining a lot of good series. Black Mirror is another one.

Netflix is slowly becoming the home for Young Adult novel adaptations. I still have a few shows I like there, but I'm starting to get worried about their sci-fi selections.

Yeah their sci-fi selection leaves a lot to be desired. I think i've caught a lot of the good ones on there already and now i'm left with nothing :(.

I feel the same. Season 1 of Altered Carbon was awesome and the second season was still pretty good, so it is disappointing to hear that it got canceled.

My favorite aspect of the show is the sleeve technology. I love how they use it to explore the idea of immortality, particularly what happens when immortality becomes a commodity that anyone can extend their life as much as they want. On one hand, you have rich people who can buy the best 'sleeves' using to become planetary overlords and in some cases, almost like gods. While, on the other hand, you see the poor who can't afford cloned sleeves decide to die after a few lifetimes. The fact that they managed to tell this story within a murder mystery in Season 1 and a (maybe?) political thriller in Season 2 was very entertaining.

It's too bad they didn't get enough viewers to justify a third season. There's so much world-building left. I'm inclined to read the books now. My best hope right now is that they give the producers of the show a chance to make a final movie. Just something to wrap things up for fans like they did with Sense8.

I was hoping they would do the same also but they didn't apparently, only giving them 8 episodes in season 2 which was no where near enough.

I'll have to watch the final episode again but I know he fights himself but I can't remember how it ends.

It blew my mind how they could have multiple back up copies of the same conciousness. But it makes you wonder, if they're not uploaded are they truly not active? They would be in a dream state constantly.

Oh so many unanswered questions.

Wow! A constant dream state. That would put anyone out of their mind.

Yeah, so many questions left to be explored. Me, I'd like to get into double sleeving even more. If you can have two versions of yourself, who is the real you? They only touched on that and Season 2 and it could have been an interesting inner conflict for Season 3.
