Hello everyone and all members of Cine TV Community, I'm back again to this community. A few days ago, I saw a post about a Cine TV contest that took a very interesting theme. Cine TV Contest #38 takes the theme of “Favorite Political Movie or Television Show”, and I honestly am not a fan of the “political” theme or genre in dramas or movies.

As a woman, I admit that. I prefer to watch dramas or movies about romantic love or movies or humorous dramas than to spend time watching political dramas. Political drama is sometimes dizzying, sometimes boring if you don't understand the genre. Unfortunately, when I got married, it turned out that my husband really liked the genre of movies or dramas about politics. According to him, the political genre sometimes intersects directly with real life. Thanks to my husband, I started watching dramas like house of cards or classic movies like 12 Angry Man.

I've watched political dramas or movies several times, and most of them I don't understand the storyline. However, I have one of the most memorable political movies of my life. The Political Movie that I chose and will discuss is entitled Negeri Tanpa Telinga / Country Without Ears (2014), an Indonesian movie that was very controversial and only aired two days in theaters before being in Indonesian cinemas at that time.

Negara Without Ears is an Indonesian Movie that was produced in 2014. I watched this movie with my boyfriend (now my husband) in the cinema that year. According to my husband, this film will not last long in cinemas so it must be watched as soon as possible. The reason is simple, because this film will not sell for the Indonesian market that year or this film will be forced to stop showing because it will hurt the politicians too much.

This film was written and directed by Lola Amalia, an Indonesian female director who often makes great films. This film is closely related to the political conditions in Indonesia. Especially the politics that occurred in 2014. In that year, Indonesia was experiencing political turmoil and made people experience a very severe polarization of political choices. In 2014, everyone understands about politics, including the presidential election, political parties, corruptors, etc. In 2014, I also became aware of political issues as a woman. Therefore, when I was invited to watch this movie, I became interested at that time and impressed me.

My first reason why this movie is so memorable for me is because of its unique premise. The Land Without Ears tells the story of a masseuse who is a regular for politicians in Indonesia. The massage profession is one of the service professions that is often found in Indonesia. Our society really likes to massage the body. When being massaged, we often tell stories or talk to our massage therapist about our lives or any problems.

I can relate to that premise. I think the premise is that what if politicians, their families, their mistresses, the opposition, law enforcers have a masseuse subscription. IN this Movie, this massage therapist has all the important information from all these politicians about the corruption that the politicians are about to commit. Moreover, the massage therapist was worried about his condition and decided to damage his hearing so he could no longer hear the chatter of corrupt politicians while being massaged.

The second reason for me. This movie was made not too serious, so I can catch up with the story. The storyline is also simple and there are lots of elements of humor in it. However, because of that, the story is too shallow and feels like a satire movie. The political conditions are indeed made similar, but it doesn't seem too serious. I don't know if this is the direction of the director and screenwriter. On the critical side, I think that this movie should be made into a political movie with a dark comedy side rather than just a comedy satire that parodies political phenomena.

For sure, I like the premise and for me it becomes a memorable political movie for me. In addition, this film has a shallow story and character development but becomes a movie worth watching thanks to the acting of the actors. All the actors and actresses involved in this film are top actors in Indonesia. Therefore, the acting quality of the actors in one movie will be very influential.
