Today, the menu has the king of lentils i.e. Rajma, just by the name Raj means the King and ma is the what we call bigger size beans in the northern part of India. The dish is authentic Indian dish and is very widely eaten in the country.
Red Kidney Beans Curry - Indian Style.
Rajma is the indian name for Red Kidney Beans and it is one of the most favourite dish of India. Soaked, Cooked and Simmered with Onions, Tomatoes and Spices. I bet anyone visiting India once and they have already tasted the unforgettable taste of RAJMA CHAWAL
Let's start with the Ingredients:-
- Red Kidney Beans.
- Ginger and Garlic.
- Onions - 2.
- Tomatoes -3
Now it's time to do some preparations.
At first we, overnight soak Rajma and drain the water out.
Grind Tomatoes, Garlic and Ginger to form a puree.
- Finely Chop Onions.
Now the Process of making it into a gravy:
Take a Pressure cooker and put the soaked Rajma and add 3 Cups of Water.
Add a spoon of salt to the pressure cooker.
It's time to close the pressure cooker and let the beans cooked on high flame and wait until 3 whistles.
Now the Rajma is boiled and becomes a little mushy, its time to make the masala.
Masala Making Process
Take a pan and pour 3 spoons of oil and cumin seeds.
Add Chopped onion to the pain and wait until it gets totally cooked and changes its color to brown.
Add tomato puree to the pan and cook it until it looses half of its water.
Time to add spices and cook it for another 2 minutes.
Now the masala is made and its time to pour the boiled beans in to the masala.
Cook it for another 15 minutes on low flame.
Rajma Masala is ready to serve !!
The smooth texture of the gravy says the effort has got into the dish.
Best served with Boiled Rice.
