Food Sharing #212 - The Hydro Majestic @ Medlow Bath, Australia

Hi Everyone,

On my girls trip to the Blue Mountains, one of things we were very keen to go to book the famous High Tea at The Hydro Majestic at Medlow Bath. Since having kids, my friends and I haven’t had many ‘adult’ meals and high tea would not be somewhere you take babies or we won’t be able to enjoy the yummy food. Since we had no kids with us, we need to try this place. We were lucky to get a booking and arrived on time. Lots of parking outside so one less thing to worry about.

We were seated next to the window over looking the fabulous view of the mountain and and most people will request for these window seats. Let’s have a look at the menu. We decided to order a Wintergarden High Tea and an Eastern High Tea. For the tea, we opt to pay an extra $6 each for a tea blossom. We chose the black tea with jasmine and vanilla and white tea with marigold and jasmine. The one thing that also caught my eye was the children’s high tea which would be great if I do bring the kids back next time when they are a little bit more older.

First comes our tea. Our special tea comes to use in a ball and the staff ensure they the correct flower before they put it in the teapot. We need to wait a few minutes after the flower opens up so the taste of the tea can slowly come out. Free hot water refill available during the duration of your stay and the best part, the tea tastes really good even after a refill.

Here comes our food! Displayed with 3 tiers of food, we were giving a nice explanation what was presented to us and there was a wide range of selection for each tea set. As I ordered the Eastern high tea set, it was really impressive especially been told that the dim sims were made in house so I was really looking forward to it how it compared to the traditional yum cha places I am used to eating trays of dumplings. So top level for both sets was dessert. Really they are very similar when the staff was explaining to us with the Eastern one have more green tea flavouring. Next would the carb food for both theirs. Love the combo for both tea sets with the Eastern side a bit more disappointing with creativity particularly not liking the rice paper roll but the matching sauce was delicious.

Finally the lower tier the western set was scones which yummy whipped cream and dim sims for the eastern choice. I have to say as an Asian myself, the dim sims were very impressive if they were made in house. Even the pork bun was nearly full marks in my books and I don’t like pork buns! I was very very impressed with the Eastern tea set even my friend said my choice was the better one overall after we tasted each others food.

The service here was top notch and everyone was very friendly. The seating arrangement was spaced out well due to COVID and having the view there was a bonus. They bathroom was downstairs which is a bit inconvenient especially for the elderly. Remember to book ahead of your visit and ask if you can be seated next to a window to get the fabulous view while enjoying your tea.
