Descubriendo frutas que no conocía: la Jaca / Discovering fruits I didn't know: Jackfruit [ESP/ENG]

Hello friends who like to eat Sabroso.

Today I want to share with you a discovery I made when I recently arrived in the country where I am living.

It is a fruit that does not look like a fruit, but it is one of the most delicious fruits I have ever tasted in my life.

The fruit I am talking about is called Jaca (in Brazilian Portuguese it is called by this name "Jaca", but in Spanish it is spelled Yaca), it is a tropical fruit that has its origins in the Asian continent.

This fruit was brought to Brazil from India in the 18th century and became very popular to the point of being marketed like any other fruit.

It is a large fruit that can weigh up to 15 kilos. It is green on the outside and yellowish on the inside. When it is ripe and opened we can see that it consists of a series of segments that have a seed inside (similar to a soursop or cocoa). These segments are the pulp of the fruit which is what is eaten.

Recently I had the opportunity to get to know the Jaqueira tree, which is called Jaqueira. Here I show you the pictures I took of this impressive tree.

These days when I went shopping I took the opportunity to buy a piece of Jaca to show you more in detail what is this fruit that has fascinated me. It cost me 15 reais which is more or less equivalent to 3 US dollars. You can also order it in pieces as shown in the photos, but in particular I like to buy the piece and eat it little by little cold from the refrigerator. It should be noted that recent studies have shown that it is a very nutritious and healthy fruit.

The jackfruit has a flavor that I can't describe. The fruit itself has a very pleasant sweet aroma that can be perceived from a great distance, so if you buy jackfruit you will not be able to hide its aroma. But speaking of the flavor, in my personal perception I would say that it is a sweet fruit like an apple with a very slight citric touch like that of mango.

Anyway, I think it is the combination of several fruits, so you would have to try it to have your own perception of what it tastes like. What I can tell you is that despite its somewhat rustic appearance, you will not regret trying it, I assure you.

Here in the pictures I show you how is the piece I bought and how it is constituted in gajo which is what you eat.

Well my friends I was delighted to share with you this discovery I made of this wonderful fruit. Maybe in your country they also have the Jaca, in mine I never saw it, the closest thing I saw in appearance was the bread fruit.

Apart from the Jaca there are other fruits that I have also just learned about that I have only seen in this country, but that is the subject of another post.

The pictures were taken with my Sony Xperia and Lg style phone.

All images were edited in canva.
