Making Egg Tea Using That My Late Father Teach Me

Hi everyone, welcome to my post. I hope you all in good health and happy every day.
Today, for some reason I feel that I miss my late father, although already eight years he left us, it is hard not to miss him.

I remember that day when we live in a small village at Riau, he teaches me how to make his favorite drink “Egg Tea”. Egg Tea is traditional from West Sumatra, Indonesia. Chicken or duck egg can be chosen for the tea. Other ingredients, in addition to tea and egg yolk, are sugar and calamondin. (Wikipedia)

He teaches me how to make it while using coconut sticks as the egg whiskers. Sounds weird, but it’s all true.

Several days ago I went to a mall and found small egg whiskers that cost cheap so today I decided to make a cup of egg tea.

For making this egg tea, you can use free-range chicken egg or duck egg. Either one is fine, but I choose free-range chicken egg because I still can handle the fishy smell from a free-range chicken egg than from a duck egg. Because I don’t have free-range chicken eggs, I went to the traditional shop and bought some eggs, because I just make it for myself, I just need 2 free-range chicken eggs in case one of the eggs is already cold. The cold egg makes it hard to separate the egg yolk with egg whites.

After buying the free-range chicken egg, I take my old transparent drinking glass, put two tablespoons of sugar, and put the separated egg yolk into the glass.

Using my new small egg whiskers, I scramble the eggs on the glass until the sugar melted, and the egg yolk white instead of yellow.

While scrambling the egg, you can boil some water, and put some tea leaves. I use tea leaf from a legendary tea leaf in Indonesia that is “The Bendera”, this tea brand has been around before I was born to this world.

After the water boiled, and the egg yolk ready. Pour tea water into the glass, you can use a tea strainer to make sure there is no tea leaf get into the glass because it will ruin the taste, and you can’t enjoy the tea later.

After the glass almost full, stir the tea until the egg is perfectly mixed with the tea water. Now the tea is ready, now it’s time to drink it.

I love to drink and eat in my room, so I take the tea to my room and drink it there.

But when I drink this tea, I realize the tea needs a bit more sugar to make it better, about 1 tablespoon of sugar and it will be much better.

If you someday trying to make this “egg tea” and you can’t handle the fishy smell or the fishy taste, you can put some sliced lemon juice onto the egg tea, it will help a lot.
In my city, 1 portion of egg tea costs about IDR 10000, and this egg tea can be modified or add a topping on it, like sliced bread, boba, or some sliced young betel nuts. The married man often drinks this tea, because there’s a benefit for them after drink this tea.
