Hive Creative Contest | Let's Go Fishing - Herb stuffed Baked Trout
The fresh sea breeze with only the smell of the ocean, fresh bait and the sound of the seagulls is food for any sea fisherman's soul.
Those preferring the calm waters of a dam or estuary, enjoy the tranquil surroundings with the bush and mountains as a backdrop; ducks and geese swimming in the waters and the occasional fish jumping out the waters.
Some of the men in my life enjoy sea fishing and the others the calm fresh waters.
Hubby and my two sons.
I'm sure by now you've gathered that we love the outdoors, love fishing and eating that catch, anything in fact that comes from the sea; as for freshwater fishing, my preference is Trout and Bass, but Trout is the winner by far.
My oldest son visited the Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Resort in Mpumalanga recently; a tranquil game reserve that one would go to if you wish to have a good and proper getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
I will tell you more about this tranquil haven in the coming days.
They boast not just one, but eight fly-fishing Trout dams and one can choose to catch and release, or keep the fish and pay ZAR160 per kg.
Dean froze one of his catches and gifted it to us and was it absolutely delectable!
I chose to bake it in the oven as I didn't want to attempt filleting this fish and lose some of the delicious delicate flesh.
Baked Stuffed Trout
- 1 whole Trout, cleaned and lightly salted, placed in foil
Cavity stuffed with: - diced fresh Parsley, Thyme & Rosemary
- Lemon slices
- cubes of Butter
- Fish spice
Dot with butter, close up foil to make a parcel and bake at 180°C for approximately 30 minutes per 2kg fish.
Deliciously fragrant, tender Trout falling off the bone, perfect for serving with Potato Crisps or wedges and a salad.

Nothing beats the taste of fresh fish, lucky you having a family of men who enjoy fishing.
Nice easy recipe to follow whether on raw coals or in an oven Lizelle.
It's even better on the coals as one gets a slightly smoky flavour, we just don't get the time to do this often enough but hopefully that will all change now that things are more open. Let's hope it stays that way:)

We start heading toward shad season soon, hopefully find a fisherman willing to sell one or two. My brother is a keen on trout and bass fishing for sport.
Most definitely hoping no backlash after long weekend since the country is so broken already I don't think it can take many more knocks....

My mama @buckaroo says that you are also in the Cape. We also have fish in our dam. But they are tilapia and I can catch them in my net. We like eating fish. My sister loves pink like your trout
