My Simple Homemade Weekend Dish

avatar

Hello everyone, trust I meet you all doing good?

Today I decided to visit the kitchen myself to prepare the family's meal. Usually my Mum does it, but since its weekend, I decided to do the cooking 😊

Its a very simple dish and there isn't really anything super special in the dish I made but still I enjoyed documenting the process. I hope you'd also enjoy reading through my documented process also 😁

The dish I made is Rice cooked with Beans and Stew, eaten along with Fried fish and Plantain.

Cooked rice with beans

Firstly I began by cooking the Rice and Beans. The Beans was cooked halfway done first, before I later added the rice into it so they can both get done at the same time. It took about an hour for ir to be finally done.

Boiled fish and stew
Locust bean & Onions

I proceeded to make preparation for making the stew. Actually, I only needed to refine the stew's taste and look because it has previously been cooked and refrigerated. I made some sliced onions and locust bean available in which I'll be adding into the stew.

Peeled, sliced, and salted plantain ready to be fried.

Some plantains were available in the house also, so I decided I was going to fry them. I sliced and salted the plantain.

The fried plantain

I got some groundnut oil and poured it into the frying pan and waited few minutes for it to get heated up. As soon as it was hot enough, I poured the sliced plantain into it and fried it. I then used the remaining groundnut oil to prepare my stew.

My served meal

As soon as I was done with the whole cooking process, I cleaned the kitchen and washed up the utensils I made use of. I then went to serve my portion of the food.

I enjoyed eating my meal! I hope you enjoyed reading through too? 😊

...

Is it Nigerian? I had something similar at a restaurant in Tokyo. It was Tilapia in a similar red sauce with dodo on the side. It was really good! I could eat dodo every day! Not easy to find here though maybe I could cook bananas the same way?

Yeah buddy, it's Nigeria. I really like plantains too (also called Dodo). In fact, we also do prepare it in chips form (we call it plantain chips). I don't mind eating them all day.

Nah.. You can cook bananas that way. It would come out terribly bad 😌. Its quite sad you can't get plantain often over there.

I don't like fish, but I think if it's your traditional food, then you'll like it!I did not even think that there is such a dish as fried plantain!

Mm, I'm not surprised you don't like fish. My elder cousin doesn't like fish also. She only eats a little when its fried.

I did not even think that there is such a dish as fried plantain!

Really?? 🤤.. You need to taste fried plantains, they taste so sweet. I bet you'd love it
