Puff Pastry Triangles filled with Apples, Lemon and Cinnamon [ENG][ESP]

Puff pastry is for me the best dough that can exist. Its texture, shape and aroma make it one of the best doughs to prepare anything. Whether we plan to cook something sweet or savory, puff pastry dough is perfect for almost everything. Yes, maybe my preference for this dough makes me ignore a little bit other doughs that are also good, but if you love baking as much as I do, you will agree with me.

El hojaldre es para mí la mejor masa que pueda existir. Su textura, su forma y aroma, la convierten en una de las mejores masas para preparar cualquier cosa. Ya sea que tengamos pensado cocinar algo dulce o salado, la masa de hojaldre es perfecta para casi todo. Si, quizás mi gusto por esta masa hace que ignore un poco a otras masas que también son buenas, pero si amas la panadería tanto como yo, estarás de acuerdo conmigo.

The texture of the puff pastry dough is similar to placing many, many layers of cookies. This is achieved thanks to the butter that is placed and the folding of the dough. Let's say that the butter does not allow the dough to unify and gives it that layered effect. Preparing a puff pastry dough can be complicated if you don't have the necessary patience and time to prepare it. In the supermarket, you can buy frozen puff pastry dough.

La textura de la masa de hojaldre es parecida a que coloquemos muchísimas capas de galleta. Esto se logra gracias a la mantequilla que se coloca y al doblado de la masa. Digamos que la grasa no deja que la masa se unifique y hace que tenga ese efecto de capas. Preparar una masa de hojaldre puede ser complicado sino tienes la paciencia necesaria y el tiempo para prepararla. En el supermercado, puedes conseguir masa de hojaldre congelada.

When I think of puff pastry, I almost always think of Galician chicken empanadas. As a child I loved to go to the bakery and order a Galician empanada for breakfast. It is a recipe that I have pending to make at home, however, seeing that I had red apples at home, I decided to prepare a kind of apple pie without sugar, thinking of my mom who can not consume sugar.

Cuando pienso en hojaldre, pienso casi siempre en empanadas gallegas de pollo. De niño me encantaba ir a la panadería y pedir una empanada gallega para desayunar. Es una receta que tengo pendiente hacer en casa, sim embargo, viendo que tenia manzanas rojas en casa, decidí preparar como una especie de pie de manzana sin azúcar, pensando en mamá que no puede consumir azúcar.

The red apple is very sweet and is perfect for this type of preparations in which it is necessary to reduce sugar and still enjoy a good snack. It is a simple snack to prepare, especially if you have frozen puff pastry dough at home. Get the ingredients, prepare your work table and let's bake.

La manzana roja es muy dulce y es perfecta para este tipo de preparaciones en las cuales es necesario reducir el azúcar e igual disfrutar de un buen snack. Es un snack sencillo de preparar, sobre todo si tienes masa de hojaldre congelada en casa. Busca los ingredientes, preparar tu mesa de trabajo que ya vamos a hornear.

Ingredients / Ingredientes

  • puff pastry dough
  • red apple
  • lemon juice
  • cinnamon powder
  • egg
  • masa de hojaldre
  • manzana roja
  • jugo de limón
  • canela en polvo
  • huevo

Note: if you want the filling to be sweeter, you can add 1 tablespoon of honey for each apple you place. The lemon juice is only for soaking the apples, use enough to moisten them all.

Nota: si quieres que el relleno sea mas dulce, puedes agregar 1 cucharada de miel por cada manzana que coloques. El jugo de limón es solo para mojar las manzanas, usa la cantidad necesaria para humedecerlas todas.

Preparation / Preparación

  • Start by peeling the apples and cutting them into small cubes.
  • Place the apples in a bowl and add the lemon juice to moisten them. This helps to prevent the apples from oxidizing.
  • Comenzamos pelando las manzanas y cortándolas en cuadritos pequeños.
  • Coloca las manzanas en un bol y le agrega el jugo de limón para humedecerlas. Esto ayuda a que las manzanas no se oxiden.
  • Add cinnamon powder to your taste and mix well. At this point you can add honey if you wish.
  • Agrega canela en polvo al gusto y mezcla bien. En este punto puedes agregar la miel si lo deseas.

  • Roll out the puff pastry dough and cut squares to your preference. I cut squares of approximately 10 centimeters each.
  • Place some apple and fold the dough from one corner to the other, to form a triangle.
  • Estira la masa de hojaldre y corta cuadros a tu preferencia. Yo corte cuadros de aproximadamente 10 centímetros cada uno.
  • Coloca un poco de manzana y dobla la masa de una esquina a otra, para formar un triángulo.

  • With the help of a fork, press the edges so that the triangles are well sealed.
  • Beat an egg and place a little on top of each triangle.
  • con ayuda de un tenedor, aplasta los bordes para que queden bien sellados los triángulos.
  • Bate un huevo y coloca un poco por encima de cada triangulo.
  • With the oven preheated to 180°C, bake the puff pastry triangles in the oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Con el horno precalentado a 180°C, lleva los triángulos de hojaldre a hornear por el espacio de 25min o hasta que estén bien dorados y crujientes.

The puff pastry triangles are now ready. You can eat them warm or wait for them to cool completely. As they have cinnamon, if the triangles rest overnight, they will have more flavor and when they are cold, you will be able to feel the sweetness of the apple. These triangles are a simple snack to prepare, especially if you have puff pastry in the fridge. You can fill them with the fruit of your choice or even add chocolate chips.

Los triángulos de hojaldre ya están listos. Puedes comerlos calientes o esperar a que enfríen por completo. Como tiene canela, si los triángulos reposan de un día para otro, tendrán mas sabor y al estar fríos, podrás sentir el dulce que da la manzana. Estos triángulos son un snack sencillo de preparar, sobre todo si tienes masa de hojaldre en la nevera. Puedes rellenarlos con la fruta que desees o incluso colocarle trozos de chocolate.

Hi @josecarrerag funny enough, I made those exact apple tarts yesterday, love them, one can only use puff pastry for them. Yours looks so yummy well done and thanks for sharing.
