~FFF~ Ninja Made Smoothie~FoodFightFriday~

avatar

Dang, it’s Friday already?!?! What the heck happened to the week? I hope you Food Fingers are happy and healthy as the Food begins to fly. It’s Food Fight Friday so let’s do this!!

The best way I have found to consume a good amount of fresh fruits and veggies in my diet is to use my juicer or blender. I am all about that ABC (apple, beet, carrot) Juice made with my Tribest Slowstar Juicer. Take a pint, chug it down and get back to doing what I do.

Can our recently purchased Ninja Blender take these same ingredients and turn them into a smoothie rather than a juice?

Let’s keep this ingredients list as simple as possible. Something that will easily be remembered, yet great tasting.

  • 2-Apples
  • 2-Beets
  • 2-Stalks of Celery
  • 2-Oranges
  • 2-Handfuls of Medium Size Carrots
  • 2-Cups of Water

To make this I am going to be using the Ninja Duo blender. This thing has some serious horsepower!! It doesn’t feature that “whisper quiet” operation. This beast let’s everyone in the house know that something healthy and delicious is being made. I purchased mine from Bestbuy for around $150 but now I see it on Amazon for $115 right Here. Have you seen the price of some of those other “extracting” style blenders??? Trust me you don’t want to know. I had such good luck with my last Ninja Blender, why not try another one.

Peel the Oranges, Cut the Carrots and Beets into 2 inch chunks, Core the Apples, and Chop the Celery stalks into 2 inch pieces. Throw all the ingredients into the blender and add 2 cups of water. I imagine you could substitute the water with some kind of juice, you just need to add some liquid so the ingredients blend well. Then all you have to do is push the Extract button and let the Ninja do the rest.

After it runs through it’s Extracting process, which takes about 45 seconds, those hard vegetables had been pulverized into a smooth healthy drink.

Pretty impressive that those blades in the bottom can make a drink so smooth. For the price this beast is tough to beet in my opinion. Between the fruit and veggie prep, throwing them in the blender, and pushing a single button, this smoothie was made in around 10 minutes. Okay Okay let’s say 15.

This is the first time I have added oranges to this drink and I do have to say that it really kicked this drink up a notch. Like Emeril says...

Hey, @jlsplatts.

Nice. Who needs low decibel blending when you can just have more POWER!!

I'm waiting for the study that says leafy green vegetables that taste like garden weeds are hazardous to your health. :)

I am glad this thing suctions itself to the counter or else we may see "Lift Off" one of these days.

Being the carnivore that I am, I often forget the whole fruit veggie part of a "healthy" diet. As far as the greens go, soak them in ranch and add a crunch of a crouton. 😉

The smoothies I've made typically have kale in them, which, while in that leafy green category, actually sweeten up and distribute any bitter taste throughout the smoothie. That's fine. Salad used to be good. Now, what comes in the packages are generally are the weeds I'm referring to. Not sure why we need to be mountain goats, but whatever. :)

Not a big fan of ranch—I know, I know—so it's usually anything else, but the preference is a thousand island, and then maybe a honey mustard or some form of vinaigrette. I know. Froofy. :)

Of course, dressing tends to defeat the whole purpose of salad.

How goes the lockdown in your area? It sounds like we may be reopening here in a week, which confuses me, since we don't seem to be meeting the benchmarks that "science" laid out for our governor. :)

Thousand Island... dang how could I have forgotten my favorite dressing from my childhood?!?!

As far as this whole “lockdown” garbage goes... we are all doing just fine. Along with my Dad who just got done with leukemia treatments. He just keeps doing what he needs to do and I am just like him. All is well and good and we just keep on Keepin’ on!!

re: leukemia

Wow. Sounds like the last thing he needs is a global pandemic while his immune system is basically being weakened. Or at least that's what I'm envisioning is happening. I'm glad he's well, and that you and yours are, too. I keep being told by family members (who live with me, so they aren't up in Washington), that they keep hearing that Washington is opening up and I keep reading that you're not, so I don't know if there's a disparity between what's happening as it's being reported or what. The whole situation has been odd to me from the start.

That blender is a real ninja to process so many things in one go, smoothies are my favourite but my little blender would never cope with such an overload, good buy!
