The chronicles of the first take-away Iftar.

You can now officially strike away one week from the Ramadan calendar. I am kind of emotional since the days are passing by so quickly, almost unnoticeably. This Ramadan I am trying not to compromise any of my work for rest with the excuse of "fasting", which makes the fast just that much more challenging.

For no apparent reason, I had convinced myself that it would be an acceptable idea to walk for an hour, on my way home from work. Halfway through the walk, I realized I was starving like a red horse and didn't have enough energy to go home and put together some Iftar. So, I decided to go and get some take-away. Specifically, the readymade takeaway from the supermarket. I have never tried anything from them except their salmon rolls and chicken sandwiches, so much was left to be discovered.

The Sandwich Bar:

It seems to me as if the sandwich lovers had already reached their peak before I could. The shelf was a bit emptier than I would have liked it to be. Nevertheless, they did have Chicken and Beef doners, caesars salad, mashed potatoes, carrot salads, and many more.

Now, I am not a fan of their doner. Lula-kebab would be a more fitting name. Their mashed potatoes are not the best. However, their "kholodets" and other condiments are unparalleled. I haven't come across any other place that has such a flavorful collection of condiments. The doners were on sale, so I grabbed those. Their club sandwiches are fantastic, but I wasn't lucky.

The Food Assortment:

You wouldn't be wrong to guess most of the food on display is fried food. They are really easy to make, cost less, simple recipes, and more efficient in all ways for the supermarket. The other option is salad. All salads on display need little cooking. Again, easy to make, easy to store, and simply very efficient for the market.

My eyes immediately went to the seafood options. They had fish strips, fish cutlets, fish salads (usually crab meat or other fish), and so on. I am a fan of seafood, and the craving only grows more when I am fasting.

Apart from the seafood options I really wanted to take home some Plov. If you ever try any Uzbezi cuisine, I highly recommend the plov. They also some beef udon, which seemed very tempting but I was on a budget.

It was my first time for many of these things. But at the end, I went for a veg plov, beef plov, chicken strips, fish strips, fish cutlet, a salad, 2 sandwiches, and a mix veg. I was hungry. Never shop when you are hungry. I wanted to go for the rotisserie chicken, but I knew I was over buying.

The Salad:

Strike me down if I ever order this again. I had no clue what this was. I asked the lady to describe the salad and she told me it has eggs, mayo, cheese and so on. I was sold when she said eggs. But, by the time I bit into the salad, it may have gone bad. Or maybe it just tastes like that.

I am sticking to the olivie salad. Or maybe the mix veg with carrots salad. Or the pink salad. There are so many options. But this yellow monstrosity isn't an option anymore.

Takeaway Process:

Like most open serve places, you decide the portions. Except for a few things, most of them are ordered to weight. For example, the plov, I ordered 300 grams. But the salad, was in a medium box. You start to get the hang of it, and the assistants are always there to make the ordering process easier.

They pack it in styrofoam and plastic wrap, put the barcodes on the bottom, bag it up and then you can pay for them at the cashier. Many people decide to dine in. In that case you just need the barcodes. However, due to the lockdown, everyone is taking out.
