Good afternoon, beautiful community, today I will share with you about what pranayama is and its benefits. In order to understand and delve deeply into this topic, we must first know what the word means
pranayama, which comes from two Sanskrit roots: prana "vital energy" and yâma
"controlling" . Therefore, pranayama literally means "control of prana or vital energy". Many traditions have been aware of this energy as part of the universe and of the human being, over time they have been given different names such as: "glorious body" by the fathers of the Catholic Church, "ki" by the Japanese and "chi" by the Chinese.

The pranayamas are a series of breathing techniques that aim to control the entry, distribution and exit of vital air in the human body. By taking deep breaths, oxygen is absorbed for the physical body and prana for the subtle body. The absorption of oxygen by the blood system must be sufficient so that the mind does not become lazy, the body does not accumulate metabolic waste and energy circulates freely. The absorption of prana by the nadi purifies the subtle body, generating physical and mental stability, which helps in the meditation process. Prana manifests itself on the physical plane as movement and action, and on the mental plane as thought. It is the means that unites the body with the soul. It is the force that connects consciousness with matter.

  • Fases Del Pranayama:/ Phases of pranayama:

Next, I will explain how to do a pranayama exercise, there are many, but today I will talk about one that I really like and it is called: "Nadi Sodhana".

The "Pranayama Nadi Sodhana" is known as "alternate breathing." The word nâdî means 'subtle channel', it is the passage through which the prâna flows, and the word sodhana means "cleansing".

It is normal that one of the two nostrils is always partially blocked and that the air of inspiration passes mainly through the other nostril. Breathing through the left nostril usually predominates, which connects with the right part of the brain and with the energy channel (nâdî) of cold breathing called Ida ‘air of the Moon’; then it passes to the right nostril, connected with the part with the left part of the brain and the channel of hot breathing, called Pingalâ ‘air from the Sun.

Saludos

This is really cool, thank you! Breathing is very important and sometimes we forget this very easy and basic principle! One of the best things I learned for things like running is using stomach breathing instead of chest breathing. It requires active effort to do it but you get much better breathing since it engages the diaphragm instead of the thoracic muscles.

Mucha luz y amor.

Yes, in some theater classes that I took some time ago, I learned to breathe through the diaphragm and it is not as easy as it seems, it requires practice hahaha. And well, in yoga I was practicing it, there are several types of super interesting pranayama. Thank you very much for commenting. Lots of light and love.
