Little Garden | My Garden Journal

Hello.
I've been away from here for a few days. I had a little flu, luckily now I'm all right. After fixing it, we made a garden with my mother in the empty space at the back of our building. I want to tell you a little bit about that today.

First of all, I want to tell you about our garden. We lived in a big city before we moved here. There was not much garden space there except for houses and tall buildings. We could not have a garden because it is a metropolis. My mother and I always dreamed of having our own house with a garden. If we cannot achieve this fully, we have achieved some of it. Maybe we couldn't buy a detached house, but we moved to a small city full of greenery. It is a very good feeling for me to eat fruit from a tree on the way to the market here. Not being able to encounter such a thing in the big city always saddened me, but it is very nice to experience them here. We bought a duplex house on the 3rd floor of a 4-storey building. We could not buy a detached house, but a duplex with a terrace seemed like a detached to us.

There was an earthen garden at the back of the building we moved to. We decided to build a garden here with the consent of our neighbors. I have never planted seedlings in the ground in my life. I was quite inexperienced in these matters. The local people here are very good and the first year planting seedlings helped us a lot. Thanks to them, we ate the products we planted for the first time. It was an indescribable feeling to consume vegetables from our own seedlings.

The picture you see above was before you cleaned the garden. It was full of weeds and stones. We cleaned all of them one by one with our hands. We didn't have many tools as we had no previous experience. Of course, a few tools such as shovel, rake, hoe were necessary. Over time, we bought these from local markets.

While we were cleaning the garden, a neighbor sitting in our building helped us. Here people help each other. It is very difficult to see such beautiful solidarity in big cities. This is the first time I've seen these good things here after moving here. People were naive and very nice. They welcomed us not as strangers but as if we were living there before. They immediately took us in.

These were the first year's crops. It was the first time in my life that I had planted vegetables and received a very good reward. My mother used to say "the land always likes to give." Whatever you give him, he will always give you back. We gave him seedlings, he is a vegetable to us. If you look at him badly, he will turn bad on you. That's why we must protect nature. We really need it. We understood this very well, especially during this pandemic period. Everyone was confined to their homes, and cities without gardens and trees overwhelmed the people. I have always spent time in the garden in quarantine time here. If I continued to live in stone buildings in the big city, my psychology would deteriorate.

This month, we thought we should start transplanting. We were going to dig the garden, but because the location of the garden was changed and the soil was very hard, we got help from someone else. We summoned a man who made his living by digging the gardens and dug the garden for him. It took hours while we were digging last year, but this man was so skilled that he finished the excavation in 1 hour. We paid him a lot for his efforts and sent him.

After the garden was dug, manure was thrown away. Our neighbor, who saw that we were dealing with the garden, gave us the tomato seedling that he sprouted himself. We live in the same building with him. He also made a garden next to us. We always give each other seedlings.

We first planted tomato and cucumber seedlings in our garden. We planted the salads in a long row near the wall. Last year, we planted in the same place and got very good results.

We went shopping to the market the other day. With the opening of the season, seedlings started to be sold. We bought some of the vegetables we were going to plant.

The seedlings we buy; Cucumber - Hot Pepper - Thin Pepper - Bell Pepper - Eggplant - Tiny Tomato - Pink Tomato - Normal Tomato -Green beans and Strawberry. There is basil in the basket. I bought it to put it on the table on the terrace. I love the scent of basil, every summer I plant it in a small pot and smell it.

We did not plant any fruit last summer. This year we wanted to try planting fruit and my choice was strawberry, which I love very much. we bought three strawberry seedlings. We also bought one for growing in pots on the balcony. Strawberries are spreading and multiplying in the soil, so three will be enough for us. There may also be other seedlings to be added. For now, we have provided the vegetables we consume the most.

We could not sow some of it because it was raining, but we will not land and plant the remaining seedlings in a short time. I will share with you when we plant them. For now, I am ending my article here. My garden adventure has just begun. I will be waiting for your ideas and suggestions. Thank you in advance for reading and supporting. I'll add pictures from our garden below.

With love.

Congrats on getting this all done, I hope it wasn't too rough! Also, I wanted to know in the very first image what do you have in that basket, I can see some green bell peppers, and what looks to be Lemon Drop peppers, but what are the others?
