Mother Nature provides the plants we need as a reaction to what is happening on Earth

Spiritual Guides always appear for me when I live in an area long enough. Here in France I have a German lady called Doris whose allotment is next to ours. She has an incredible knowledge of plants & medicine after growing on this land for 30 years.

While walking in the forest with her yesterday she pointed out a yellow & orange flowing plant in full bloom (St John's Wort) and told me a little story which has unlocked a door curiosity within me.

Nature Listens

In all her life she said, she had never seen this particular medicinal plant flourish so spectacularly across this region. While normally there would be only a few, this year there were thousands. Enough for her to make plenty of the medicine. Which she did.

She hypothesised that Mother Earth was reacting to the current climate of fear by producing an abundance of a plant which has a calming effect.

Most commonly it is used to cure depression & paranoia but it is also used for pain relief, better sleep & as a muscle relaxant.

How does that make you feel?

Personally this concept resonates deeply with me. And I feel it to be truth.

But how long has it been since humans were connected enough with their Great Mother not only to notice, but also to understand what she is offering?

Yep. Long time.

Beware the Sun

I asked Doris if the plant offered any other medicinal benefits and she explained there was indeed one other benefit which she felt to be relevant. It is an effective treatment for severe sunburn.

What I read from this is a warning. Offered clearly by nature.

A lot of information has been hidden from us about what the sun truly is, the cycles it goes through and how these cycles affect us. Many of you will know I am sun-gazer, so I've had plenty of time to contemplate this.

Past civilisations have for some reason found the need to live underground or deep within mountains.

Troglodyte caves can be found all over the world and one must seriously ask themselves why these people chose to direct such a huge amount of effort into carving their homes out of rock? People only live this way if they feel they have to. History will likely tell you it was for defensive reasons. Whereas I hypothesise they were built to protect them from periods of devastating sun intensity.

Here in France it feels as if there is less sun with all the rain & bad weather we've been having recently, but when the sun does come out it is incredibly hot, making even well-watered plants droop. I have seen how quickly it can burn my skin if I ignore my instincts and stay out when it is hot. On days such as these we do our garden time before midday.

I cannot say what the future holds but I can say that every part of my experience now is connected in some way to it. Nothing is coincidence. Everything is relevant.

So... be silent and listen when your Mother is speaking to you ;)

I missed so much of what my German Nana had to teach about herbs and plants as I was too busy at the time to listen. She did, in a away, put me on the plant path. Thats really interesting about St Johns Wort. I wish it grew wild here. Loved this post....

I think the interest in such things must surely start when we are young. No doubt your amazing Nana played her part.

One of the things I love most about nature is that we never stop learning! Am still so excited by the idea presented in this post and want very much to learn more... :)

Oh, I LOVED your post and I LOVED your insight. I, particularly, loved you talking about Spiritual Guides. It is SO TRUE. They're everywhere and they only want us to show interest, to ask, to listen.

I find it so interesting that you talk about the Sun from your own point of view. I have read your sun-gazing related posts and I also do it myself but not as a PRACTICE itself and have also wondered what is it really about the Sun? Also, it was adored for our Natives Tribes (I'm South American) and so much of the information they had has disappeared though Colonization.

I also think Mother Nature has EVERY SINGLE CURE for EVERY SINGLE THING. We just lack the education about it! (Weren't we the civilized ones?) Some weeks ago, I read an user talk about how the usual insects and flowers have been disappearing from his land and he had a meditation where a Guide told him he needed to plant some specific flowers to bring the bees back and restore the damage. It is so impressive.

Exactly right. One tends to find Spiritual Guides due to the way in which we express our interest in things and as you say, they are more than happy to open up and provide what we need once they see our enthusiasm :)

It is an interesting side-effect of looking at the sun. It makes us wonder what it truly is. And the mind really starts exploring once sun-gazing is a regular practice and we start to realise we don't need food as much as you used to. I believe this particular rabbit hole goes deep...

Happy to hear you don't have any fear around this, as most people do. Once the fear is gone, the connections only grow. Can only imagine what treasures would have been found in the books of your ancestors! No doubt they were destroyed because they showed a way of life unimaginable to us now.

The sun is so much more than just a ball of hot stuff ;)

When I read the preface to your post in the @naturalmedicine I knew it was reffering to Doris!!! I headed straight over to find out if I was right.

In all her life she said, she had never seen this particular medicinal plant flourish so spectacularly across this region.

Yup I was at the same conclusion as Doris (and no doubt you my friend) instantly. At such a time as this, what else would the earth produce in such abundance, right?

Your musings on the Sun, which I am familiar with from previous posts, came at a synchronicitous time indeed. Let me share a bizarre quirk that has started to become more and more frequent in my writing of late, so much so that I have actually had not one but two conversations about it. I refer to the Sun a lot.Usually I mention it in a metaphoric sense regarding cycles of life, going through tough times, grief etcetera.

The weirdest things has started to happen, I capitalise the word Sun, it has happened so many times over the past couple of weeks that I cannot merely write it off as coincidence. So I delete the S and replace it with s and I have this feeling in my gut that I was right first time... This may sound an odd thing to say, but after reading your post, it felt relevant.

I cannot say what the future holds but I can say that every part of my experience now is connected in some way to it. Nothing is coincidence. Everything is relevant.

So... be silent and listen when your Mother is speaking to you

Abso-bloody-lutely my friend!

I do enjoy reading your thoughts and experiences Sam (as I am sure you are aware) there so often seems an affinity I find difficult to quantify. I wish so much that I had followed my instincts and reached out when you were in York, less than an hour away. It felt important that you were so nearby, but I felt foolish so did not. Trust me I have kicked myself many times since.

Much love, light and the very best wishes imaginable to you and yours my friend from me and mine. :)

((I had more to say, but realised how much I had gone on again lol. ))

Hey Steven! I suppose we shouldn't be surprised but there is a clear connection between us. When writing this post I capitalised the S of sun and only at the last moment during my proof read did I decide to change it back, ignoring my initial instincts. It is evident enough that our Great Mother deserves capitalisation so why not the Sun which is perhaps something along the lines of our Great Father? I am pleased you brought this up because next time I will go with the first instinct... and I will think of this moment and smile :)

Don't beat yourself up about York. I dedicated myself so wholly to that job, leaving very little for much else. Being constantly on call didn't help much either. Impossible to organise anything. They did at least give me a 5K bonus for that dedication, which perhaps explains why I felt like working so hard. We spent most of that on gaining independence around our food production... and a trampoline & pool for the kids.

All the best to you my friend. Enjoy what remains of the Summer!
