It seems to me that slowly drying fruit at low temperatures is the best way to preserve the nutrients & intensity of flavour. Loving our new dehydrator!
I am very grateful to the local farmers for making this possible for us ;)
Amazing you actually have a tree. Don't know of any wild ones here. Plenty of wild plums though. Esteban & I will be making plum jam tonight. First time for everything!
Dried apples, pears, plums, prunes AND apricots - oh yum!! This was my standard winter dinner party dessert in my corporate entertaining life in Oz. Soak said fruit in brandy or Grand Marnier while at the office. On return home, simmer with some water and a cinnamon stick while taking a shower. Throw in small sweet dumplings whilst drying hair. Serve with fresh King Island Cream.
Excellent to learn you also have a dehydrator. Seems to me it is a pretty useful piece of kitchen equipment. I can hear mine running now. In fact it has barely stopped since we bought it. The next electricity bill could be interesting!
hahahaha on your next electricity bill.
I found mine for $10 at a thrift store a few years ago - no car, so I had to work out how to balance it on the top of my shopping cart. But for $10 there was no way I was going to leave it behind! I got it home where it has definitely paid for itself many times over. I haven't been able to use it much lately, but presumably that will start picking up in the next month as one store has discounts and such. I need to find someone (still) who does the larger boxes of fruit (hard in our arid climate where very little grows easily), then it will be running most of the time again.
thanks @cuddlekitten :)
After some delays we are now 5 days till kitten day!
Dammit, I want an apricot tree! Actually, I do have one, but the cockatoos always get them and I can't keep water up to it...
Works wonderfully well with blood-plums too. 😍
Yes indeed! Yum. Our plums usually do well.

This food looks very appetizing. 😋
It doesn't look quite so fancy once it comes out the other side ;)
But the kidz eat it. Which is the most important part of all!

Sounds AMAZING! And like you really have that down to a fine art ;)
What's in the sweet dumplings?
Hmmm. I bet that this would work well with Mangos... I'll be ready for next year's crop.
I am dreaming of mangoes brother.
They would surely be the best. Though I am very curious to try watermelon. We are growing lots, so will be able to experiment later in the year..
Mmmmm! I love fresh apricots! (But hate the ones I can buy...)
I love my dehydrator too.
