Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 3rd June 2020

It's June already! Welcome to summer in the North and Winter in the South. I love that we can see the opposing seasons in posts shared on Hive, reminding us of the vastness of this planet and how life has so many different things to face.

Things happening in the community.

The May Garden Journal Challenge from @simplymike is in full swing with a couple more days to go.
Let's keep those garden photos and updates rolling in!

The @needleworkmonday drive is still ongoing. Yes, you still have a chance to win 1000 HP delegation for a month simply by posting your needlework posts in the community on a Monday and tagging #needleworkmonday. Each week 4 posts will also be featured in the Needlework curation, so you've nothing to lose; share your projects with us!

Welcoming Newcomers

A couple of months ago we were joined by @kyleana who shares with us in both Spanish and English. She is quickly finding her feet and has lots to share with us, so I hope we can help to extend her reach.

Some highlights of the week

Not everyone has ground to grow in, but many are demonstrating that you can still grow food wherever you live. Potatoes growing in bags, anyone? @ligayagardener gives us a demonstration.

image.png

There are lots of ways to get fertiliser to your plants, but the quickest boost is often in liquid form. Having said that, I was still surprised at the idea of turning egg shells into liquid fertiliser form. @straykat demonstrates how to do this.

image.png

@lizelle is celebrating an earlier lift on restrictions than expected and what better way to do so than with some delicious cake baking. They may not be healthy, but we all need to treat ourselves now and again.

image.png

Nature gives some amazing gifts, but they are often so fleeting. It's no surprise that we might want to try and preserve some for later. Only having a few frangipani flowers meant @artemislives couldn't extract their beautiful scent as an essential oil, so she derived a different, gentle method.

Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @ligayagardener will receive this award.

Thank you for stopping by. This week's newsletter was brought to you by @minismallholding.
