'Life is Rough, So be Tough.'

As human beings, we have the abilities in us to be warriors for survival, to cope and deal with hardship, even more so, when the energies within our bodies are balanced.

Energy within our bodies flows from one Meridian to the next, hence, the importance of keeping our body balanced.

Warrior II Yoga Pose

Healing practices and medicines have evolved throughout the years, and I attribute and maintain my well-being to the practices of alternative therapies.

I strongly believe that the body has the ability to heal itself through the correct understanding and application of remedies which have been proven to regulate the energies within the meridians of the body.

How I Achieve This?

  • YOGA & QIGONG

Yoga and Qigong strengthens my mind and body, and helps to keep me balanced.

I use Yoga to link my breath and body movement, to calm and relax my mind, and I also incorporate yoga with qigong.

Qigong is a practice that is based on cultivating, circulating and harmonizing energy within the body. When energy within the body is balanced, then we can balance the body against our environment and withstand challenges and have a fully functional ability to perform at high efficiency.

The fundamental basis of Qigong is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training.

Qi / Chi means “life force energy” and Gong means skill.

So you could say that Qigong is the skilful practice of gathering, circulating and applying life-force energy.

The Human Body

The human body is basically the head, neck, torso, arms and legs. Within the body there are biological systems that carry out specific functions for us to function, and within each section known as the Meridian or the Chakra System, there are the seven centres of spiritual power in the human body.

The Main Chakras Centres control different energies of the body:

  1. Crown - Spirituality
  2. Third Eye - Intuition and Awareness
  3. Throat - Communication
  4. Heart - Love and Healing
  5. Solar Plexus - Power and Wisdom
  6. Sacral - Sexuality and Creativity
  7. Root - Survival and basic Trust Instincts

It's very important to keep all these energies balanced for a proper mind and body connection and optimal wellness.
The Chakras are like the gateway for energy to enter the body, and in Qigong studies, Chakra is from the Sanskrit word which means wheel. Therefore, if the chakra is spinning too slowly, we might feel tired or lethargic, whereas, if the wheel is spinning too fast, we may appear to be un-easy, unsettled, and on high alert.

Qigong increases my energy through it's smooth, focused and deliberate breathing, which fills my dantians (energy storage).

Wuji Stance

Before each exercise, or even just for standing meditation, it's important to align the body in the correct standing posture, as I've sketched below:

THE CORRECT STANDING POSTURE QIGONG 002.jpg

In the attached video, I'm doing a series of 5 Animal Qigong - Wu Xing Qigong, and each animal serves to improve specific organs within the meridian of the body.

I like to do this early morning on an empty stomach, and I normally repeat each exercise 3 times, with deep breathing in-between.

The 5 Animals are:

Dragon, Tiger, Leopard, Snake and Crane.

The Function and Benefit of Each Exercise

  • DRAGON: the organ associated with the dragon is the Kidney. The dragon movement activates the kidneys, making you feel awakened and energetic.

  • TIGER: the organ associated with the tiger is the Lungs. In this movement, the lungs are activated for better breathing - more breath, more strength, which equals to stronger muscles and bones.

  • LEOPARD: the organ associated with the leopard is the Liver. When the liver is activated, it increases vigor and strength.

  • SNAKE: The organ associated with the snake is the spleen. When the spleen is activated, life vitality and energy is increased and this movement is great for opening hips and assisting with removing blockages for better flow of energy

  • CRANE: The organ associated with the crane is the heart. An open heart helps to gather ones essence, and helps to deal with negative emotions such as hate, or resentment.

The overall function of the 5 Animal Qigong is to make the body soft and supple, like that of a child.
If this is practiced daily, we could literally reverse the ageing process so that you could enjoy the benefits of a strong healthy body well into your years.
