Quick Remedy For Hiccups

I found out about something and I thought of sharing it here on Hive. It may be something most of us have known before now but for those who doesn't know, here it is. Please read till the end.

What are Hiccups?

Hiccups are sounds resulting from the diaphragm spasm (contraction of muscles which are your throat and stomach muscles). It is mostly sudden and involuntary. We all know hiccups are the sounds we make from our throats that makes us so uncomfortable. It happens to everyone because it is mostly natural.

There are so many causes of hiccups that occurs for less than 2days. Yeah, there are hiccups that persist for more than 2 days and that indicate the presence of another problem which should be taken care of if noticed. Pneumonia, uremia and some others have hiccups as symptom so when your hiccups persist even after going through its remedy, please do visit a physician.

But for the regular hiccups which are less than 2days, here are some few causes:

💫 Drinking beverages or alcohol that are carbonated (containing carbon dioxide gas) and we take these drinks almost on a regular basis, it causes hiccups.

💫 Eating too much food especially when you eat your food in a hurry, this causes diaphragm irritation and result to hiccups.

💫 Too much excitement, emotional stress and nervousness causes hiccups.

💫 Swallowing air while eating, drinking or even chewing gums causes hiccups.

There may be other causes I failed to mention but these are the most causes of our hiccups.

And of course, there are so many remedies we know or have been told to use that stops hiccups like:

🗯️ Taking ice water
This has proven to work very well in stopping our hiccups, it's always recommended.

🗯️ Drinking from the opposite side of glass
Haha, I found out about this some months ago but I haven't tried it before because I find it superstitious.

🗯️ Drinking water through a cloth or paper towel
I haven't tried this either but it was recommended by a friend of mine. Well, I have an easy remedy so I won't bother taking this recommendation.

🗯️ Drinking warm water slowly
Not just cold water, drinking warm water slowly also helps to stop hiccups.

But what if hiccups starts when you are filled and no space to take water? This is where my quick and easy remedy comes in.

Hold your breath for just 5 seconds and your hiccups will stop immediately

You should know we were asked to take water just so we could hold our breath, why not just hold your breath instead of taking water when you are filled up?
