Waning of the Moon | Musings

It is a waning crescent today, or tonight I mean.

I just searched it up on the internet, for the moon phase as connected with my country, the little red dot.

The crescent moon is going to disappear soon – but I would never have known except for checking a site on the world wide web.

I think it speaks much about the lives we live in a bustling city, lives that are quite wholly disconnected to nature.

Sure, I do take walks along the beach (nice long morning strolls) and feel the cool wind breathe on my face.

Yet that is the only sliver of connection that I have with Nature.

I can’t remember the last time I looked up into the night sky. Living in a high rise apartment here, I actually do not recall the last time I looked out of my window.

I have never seen the moon, for quite a long while, and that is disconcerting to me.

During the rare times that I am out after sundown (that is, before this long period of lockdown), I would be scuttling back home, unable to stop and appreciate the beauty of the moon.

I’ll wrap my cardigan round my shoulders tightly, head bent, and focus my attention on the destination.

I am one among many, living lives severed from an intimate relationship with Nature.

And already, I make an effort to keep my sleeping and waking patterns in line with the natural rhythm by not burning the midnight oil.

Even then, I deeply feel that I have lost much from being severed from the Earth.

Not living in tandem and close connection with Nature is taking a heavy toil, far too heavy – but we are too disembodied to even notice how much our lives have shrivelled.

I shall try, tonight, to look upon the White Face – for I do miss it, yesss, far more than Gollum*.

When was the last time you looked up into a night sky? 💕

*In The Two Towers (Lord of the Rings), the creature Gollum calls the sun "Yellow Face" and the moon "White Face". He cannot endure the sight of either.

Hello @joeylim. I'm from the Philippines. Yeah, I do love watching movies so I guess it easily connects for me. :)

Feeling and hearing you, Joey. Singapore is a tough place to be - so compact and a LOT of light pollution that makes star gazing and dark nights under a bright moon really tough.

Hoping you can make time to get away - Malayasia or Thailand or Sulewesi in Indo still have so many raw, wild and pristine, natural places to visit. Make time for that.

@artemislives Thank you! 💕

I sure hope so, when the travel restrictions from this plandemic has been lifted. (':

The beaches and caves there are lovely.
