Psychology and Living: What Can We Learn From Dreams?

In a post earlier today, I briefly touched on a couple of images from a rather long and vivid dream I had, last night.

I have been dreaming a lot lately and it has been keeping me busy, putting entries into my dream journal.

Yes, I keep a dream journal. In fact, I have been keeping a dream journal since sometime in 1993... I was in therapy at the time, and my therapist felt that keeping track of my dreams might be a good way to examine some of the things my subconscious/unconscious was preoccupied with.

My conscious was very preoccupied with with a failing marriage, and with establishing a better sense of self.

This morning's dream was uncommonly clear and vivid... something that hasn't happened in a fairly long time; most of my dreams these days are pretty piecemeal (the consequence of aging?), even though I remember most of them.

It Happened Like This...

Somehow, there is a conspiracy going around that we are going to be "taken over" by some kind of hostile force. People keep talking about it, fueling the fear. I am reading an old-fashioned paper newspaper... there are pictures of protests in front of some government building; they are scrolling around like we're in a Harry Potter movie.

I have a strong feeling it is WRONG. I feel it, in the context of "Here we go again, the humans are chasing another hysterical idea, rather than facing reality!" The hostile force is no government or sociopathic megalomaniac... it's aliens. But not the kind of evil aliens we normally think of...

A "smaller" story is in the sidebar. It talks about there being some kind of computer virus that is affecting a lot of home appliances. This makes perfect sense, in the dream. However, nobody really knows anything and there seems to be little concern. Some even think it's a joke. "Toasters behaving badly?" (Side note: this dream immediately follows the twitter hack of 7/15)

I don't understand the lack of concern, and have an overwhelming urge to unplug and shut down everything electronic, before it's "too late." On a weird ticker tape inside my head, I observe that other people are starting to unplug their devices.

I walk into our downstairs media room, where the big screen TV is on. I expect to find my wife, but instead it is another woman in her 40's(?) who looks like she could be our daughter in another 20 years.

I'm about to tell her to turn off the TV and unplug it... the story on the screen is talking about how the "virus" is very cleverly wrapped around the core code of Alexa... used by hundreds of millions of households.

"Turn that off!" I say... and even as the words float out in "slow motion," I see something like a combination of a golden light and a small fog slowly drift from the screen towards the woman on the couch... and "enter" her body through her eyes.

She doesn't seem to notice, but she turns her head, looks at me and says "No, they don't want to DESTROY everything, they just want to USE it. Death and destruction are such primitive HUMAN ideas!"

Somehow, I receive an immediate picture/insight into what is going on, and what is going to happen. The "visitors" feel that it's necessary to "drug" humans into a trance because because otherwise we "would just destroy each other and ourselves" if they simply asked us to use our resources to build us a better future... they have decided it's more prudent to build it first, and then wake us up to it at a point where its value is so overwhelmingly obvious that denial would make you look very obviously insane.

My inner dialogue is that there will still be some humans who'll want to fight it, just like some humans were not convinced even when Jesus walked on water.

A voice says "those will be rehabilitated." Somehow, that does not seem like a bad thing, anymore than going to drug rehab is a bad thing. I feel hope, rather than dread.

I wake up.

Any Lessons There?

It was an "odd" dream, in the sense that it was quite different from most of my dream patterns. I'm not sure what psychological archetype(s) can be associated with benevolent aliens.

Mrs. Denmarkguy — who's educated as a Jungian analyst, among other things — suggested that I subconsciously believe it will take an alien invasion to get people to stop behaving badly.

I'll admit that I do have a bit of a latent fear that The Powers That Be often would rather destroy everything and themselves than come to some kind of reasonable compromise that would allow us all to survive and prosper. Too many egos living in a place of MY WAY, or I'll destroy EVERYONE's stuff in the sandbox! Too many egos so attached to their individual rights that they are utterly blind to the fact that the pursuit of those "rights" are denying thousands the freedom to their rights.

I dunno. Dreamscapes are very strange and vivid places, sometimes...

Dreams, layers and alternate planes of reality.... it is so powerful to be able to choose to go to the dreamspace (as I call it) and BE (consciously) in a different reality. It is the beginning place for shamanic work.

Your images are always gorgeous and bring deep smiles.

Thanks @artemislives! Whereas I do remember a lot from the dreamtime, I haven't really experimented very much with lucid dreaming... it's one of those things I "might get around to" one of these days when I have less on my plate.

Oh!!!

Ok, I will share this with you as you shared your dreams with us as well. I actually think I was abducted 😅 - for a lot of reasons - and in that dream they had me connected to some like machines? and all they did was study my emotions. Like they did not completely understood human emotions so that's what they were really doing with abducted humans. Just see how we feel. They were in front of something like a screen which translated my emotions to their language, more like symbols.

I also have been studying my dreams for quite a long time now and have come to the point of realizing WHEN I fall asleep and I have felt it like nothing stops actually but we stay in the same place only now we can see all of the realities, or realms, or planes, that really here. And we can now "consciously" walk through those realms. So dreams don't end up being imagination but something that really is happening just in another language we don't fully understand while awake.

This was SO interesting to read. I am terrified of technology and robots and such things as "Alexa", by the way. 😅

Thanks for sharing @neyxirncn, very interesting dream!

The idea of abductions is both fascinating and frightening, at the same time. A good friend who lives here in our neighborhood is a former MUFON director and we have some very interesting conversations... and no, he's definitely not part of the "Tinfoil Hat Brigade," he's actually a former sheriff who investigated some "odd" things back when he lived in the midwest. Back when I was in college, it just so happened that my "host family" were close friends with Whitley Strieber ... so we had some interesting chates back then, too (early 1980's).

You mention language, and one of the things I have experienced in several dreams is the ability to speak and write Russian... not only foreign language to me, but also a foreign alphabet! And back when I lived in enmark, I dreamed in Danish, later when I lived in Spain I started dreaming in Spanish, and now I live in the USA and dream in English...
