Will You Be Celebrating Saint John's Eve...?

This shot was taken a few years ago, on the morning after the celebration of Saint John's Eve, in the little town of Tytuvėnai, Lithuania. As you can see we partied really good! 😁

We had plenty of drinks... but not enough to stop smiling!

Saint John's Eve, starting at sunset on 23 June, is the eve of celebration before the Feast Day of Saint John the Baptist. The Gospel of Luke states that John was born six months before Jesus; therefore, the feast of John the Baptist was fixed on 24 June, six months before Christmas according to the old Roman calculation.
This feast day is one of the very few saints' days which commemorates the anniversary of the birth, rather than the death, of the saint being honored.
The Feast of Saint John closely coincides with the June solstice, also referred to as Midsummer in the Northern Hemisphere. The Christian holy day is fixed at 24 June; but in most countries festivities are mostly held the night before, on Saint John's Eve. This holiday is celebrated in many places.

Unfortunately, this year the celebrations were called off in my hometown of Porto, Portugal because of the darned virus... 🙄

This means we don't go out to the streets, don't hold big dinner parties... don't get to make big bonfires... none of the usual traditions are being held. What a drag.

We have the same culture about something like this. Are you Roman Catholic as well? Well, we go into the sea to swim and bring food and liquors. This is like a festive as well but we celebrated in the sea.

I am living in a country where most people are kind of Roman Catholic... but to say the truth, most people of my generation pay very little attention to religion.

This party has become a tradition in the city, regardless of its religious background. 😊

Oh oh oh! This is one of the hugest parties of the year in Porto and Vila do Conde. As big as Christmas, if not more! 🤭

It's celebrated in a few places... but in my country it's mostly on a couple of cities. The other cities don't celebrate it.
