Vitamin D regulates the immune system.

People with Vitamin D deficiencies fare worse with COVID19, There is substantial research proving this. Look up youtube videos for "vitamin D and covid19" and you will get an earful of information.

There are different types of Vitamin D. The most important type of Vitamin D is produced when UV B rays from the sun hit the skin. This vitamin D is turned into a different type of Vitamin D in the kidneys. The balance of these types of vitamin D regulate the calcium in our bones and our immune system.

Sunlight also causes skin cancer and sunburns.

People in tropical climates get more sun exposure; so they produce more skin coloring pigments to protect fromn skin cancer.

People in Northern climates get insufficient sun exposure in winter; so they developed lighter skin tones.

When people with darker skin tones move to northern climates, they dramatically reduced their sun exposure and develop vitamin D deficiencies.

The problem is the vitamin D deficiency. It is not race nor is it racism. The problem is a vitamin deficiency.

People with darker skin tones need to either increase their exposure to direct sunlight or to take supplements. The best time to get sun is at noon.

You should research supplements before taking supplements. Vitamin D works with Vitamin K1 and K2; so you probably want a multivitamin with Vitamin D, K1, K2, zinc and magnesium. You can get vitamin d tests from your doctor or independent lab.
