One way or another, anything centralized is doomed to fail.
Either because of the privacy and security issues, limitations such as the censorship over any reason, deletion of the user submitted content and suspension of the accounts.Put effort in something for the months, or even maybe the years and see it burn in a blink of an eye.

You already mentioned in your poll description that anything centralized is doomed to fail (sooner or later), and I agree with that.
By the way, I really like your Deep Dive that social media websites are not engineered to provide social dimension for the people, but to further on the mass surveillance. I value privacy so much that anything that is against privacy makes me very disappointed and possibly indignated.
