The view from my homestead driveway at sundown.

avatar

I was headed back to 'civilization', from the homestead; after dropping another load of prepping supplies, when I saw this while leaving the homestead. It was such a nice view, I stopped for a little while, and took some pictures!

Sundown is always a fine time for pictures:

The trees in the back look like they are right up against the ones on the front. In fact they are about 75 yards separated, so when the sun was setting, those in back are still lit at sundown. It made an interesting contrast.

Here is the wide view:

What I can't show in these pictures, is the quiet. I the winter season, there isn't even insect noise...only the wind!

Here is the view from my driveway in suburbia:

There is a significant difference, and I am ready to move out there as quick as it is repaired. BTW, it's not quiet in the last picture....

I was totally checking it out thinking that there might be deer.

Awesome job and can't wait to see more of your amazing Paradise.

I have see as many as 5 deer in this same area. One local field had over 40 grazing on it. Lots of them live locally!

Here's the container I set in out on the homestead for secure storage!

I will need to cut some trees to get some sun for garden space.

Man that looks like a nice little section there.

And with a little bit of tree trimming I bet that's going to be a really nice little spot.

And might want to look in some plant varieties really like shade so some of that shade area might be exceptional planting areas for them.

Not all plants want full-time high-power sunlight.

Sadly not mine, this is as I'm leaving the homestead, across the street. It is about 150 yards to the treeline, and my property is higher. So at sundown, they get shaded; but during the day, it would make a great garden spot!

I like your eye for the train and light.

You're going to make a farmer yet.

I'm working on being a farmer, ROFLOL!

The homestead is so wooded, that I will have to cut trees to get enough sun for my solar system, and a garden. I hate to, but I will mill the trees for lumber; so they aren't wasted.

Biochar..

Actually getting a small processing system so that you just bake it down to charcoal and don't run it all to Ash...

Although I'm sure you probably put everything through a chipper and make the process quite a bit easier.

My brain is kind of been batting around ideas on how to turn all plant matter from limbs leaves and even weeds into excessive amounts of biochar.

Yep..

And when you start looking at it like remodeling a house you have to do some demolition to open up space. And then when you got nice open free space cleaned out then you can start rebuilding.

One of my really fun and interesting ideas is getting a 20 ft tall cherry tree and slowly bending it into an arch and put a little bit of cloning gel on the tip of the tree and start getting that set up as I'm growing the arch. Then planting the tip and having have two fruit systems to support flowers.

For a while there it will definitely help keep down the pruning and help keep the fruit closer to the ground. All it takes is just a little string.

However for every tree you take out I wonder how many you have planned on putting in. As well as putting in the variety.

I am planning on biochar! It solves a lot of problems, and gives long term gains. I plan to use aquaponics in a wallipini greenhouse (partly buried); to give me year round production. I think I've figured out how to use biochar in the aquaponics system, which is not supposed to work! I hate to remove these trees, as they are oak and black walnut; but I've no choice as I've got to have sun!

I will plant some fruit trees, on the edges.

There's always something that can happen.

Yes biochar is awesome.

True biochar is along the addition to the garden quality! They say that aquaponics can Not be combined with bio char. But I have figured out how to do it anyway. Life stays interesting!

I'm adding a satellite machine shop at the homestead, for dealing with 'surprises' that happen....

I absolutely don't see why not...

And of course I have seen a couple of systems using charcoal filters to help manage the solid waste...

Hum very interesting question. Personally I thought that it would help manage my pH levels.

The biochar is a secret weapon! Biochar Robs too many nutrients for many aquaponics systems. Most systems never reach nitrification levels, so the system never starts.

Charcoal filters are good for the fish, and bad for the plants; so they must be used carefully. The solids are exactly what the plants need. I have heard that biochar affects the Ph Numbers, but I haven't researched it yet.

Yeah it would buffer the pH levels and you have to use the right amounts.

You are looking for the bigger chunks with this system allowing the smaller nutrients to pass through. However it helps so that you don't have so radical of swings.

Email me, not ready to put this online right now. If not right, it could cause terrible harm, if done badly!

Need to be sure first, if it works, it will turn aquaponics on it's ear! May be able to use the aquaponics to pre-charge biochar to use in standard gardens and raised beds.

Actually that sounds like a pretty expensive product for revenue to support your homestead!

Definitely let me know when you get it dialed in.

True, liberal policies have killed what otherwise would be a great place to live! Get clear before it finally dies, it could take you with it! They haven't started restricting travel yet, but they must eventually. Tyranny is a journey of many small steps....

Good luck, and happy traveling!

Fleeing to the country, just like the Book says! Cities will be a death trap soon. Stock in food as fast as you can, maybe you can bless others; but your family needs to be provided for!
