Floor replacement, for fun and profit...well fun at least.

The floor in the dining room at my rental house lasted 30 years, but I had to replace the floor entirely when it became brittle.

This is what we ended up with:

It went down well, and will serve, hopefully another 30 years!

We had to remove the old floor first:

The floor was then prepared:

We added tile primer first. This is basically a roll on contact adhesive, that will help the self stick tiles stay down better.

Then we laid out the floor from the center of the room, and started laying tile:

The start is the most important, because the entire floor lays out from there. We used chalk lines for alignment to ensure a square layout.

Then we filled in the full tiles:

So we can cut in the partial tiles around the edges:

Once we added the cut pieces, the floor becomes complete.

Then we add doorway stripping:

The last step is the wierdest, I have to step on it...All of it! I spent 15 minutes walking all over the floor, to ensure the adhesive bonded with the primer coat. When the 'crackling' stopped, the floor was down, and I was done! So was the floor....

The floor will have a new renter soon, I hope they like the new floor!
