Breathe, stretch, fly!

Just sitting down to write at almost 12:30a.m. These days are long. Full, though. I like knowing I experienced a wide spectrum of activity during my day, and lately, that’s what they’ve been. I’m winding down now and it feels great after a frenzy of errands, meetings, household responsibilities, family, friends, @caffetto time, shooting and finally, editing, which I just finished. I had a shoot this afternoon in St. Paul and that’s what I wanted to share here on Hive tonight. Not my usual pinup photography.

My friend Hayley runs an aerial yoga studio called Fly Freak. Like anyone in her industry, it’s been a really difficult year because of COVID. We’ve been friends for years and for the last few months, I’ve been trying to help her out with new photography and video for her business, specifically for her social media accounts. Because that was the purpose of these shoots, I haven’t approached them like I would for my dark pinup work. No heavy editing or post processing and because of that, they feel foreign to me.

That’s fine. I know these are more accessible from a marketing point of view, which what our intent. Hayley is truly inspiring watching her exercise her passion for fitness and control over her body. Her flexibility is remarkable. In addition to shooting these promotional portraits, I also shot some drone video. I’ll be sharing that as well in the next few days, but it’s such a unique experience to slowly track the drone 30 feet high above the studio.

There will be a lot more to come. I just finished the edits from the previous shoot Hayley and I did together for Fly Freak, and now we got in another 700 photos this afternoon. I have the weekend ahead of me to look through the last few shoots I’ve done with the new Nikon Z6II. I’m still in awe of what this camera can do. My first mirrorless and the most versatile camera I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Thanks for reading!

I've been wanting to get into yoga, but I just don't feel like I have the time to dive into it. I was hoping I could use it as something to supplement my weekly workouts on the weekends. Anyway, great shots. It looks like you got a lot of great material for her to work with !
