Noisy walk

All over the world to this day there is a problem of obtaining a high-quality image, despite the development of technologies in this area. The technique has made great strides forward, but the problems of taking a picture in low light still remain unsolved.

In simple words: it is already possible to shoot handheld in the dark, but the picture will still be of insufficient quality.

Whereas earlier, when using high-sensitivity photographic film, grain appeared, now it is called digital noise.

And this noise distracts almost everyone from viewing the picture.

There are many noise reduction programs, plug-ins and even noise reduction algorithms built into the camera.

But if you apply too much noise reduction, the picture will also suffer in terms of quality and details.

Noises are color and monochrome. They usually appear on uniform surfaces such as the sky.

If you highlight shadows while processing, then the noise will also appear.

But all this digital noise will be bullshit to you if you are a reportage photographer!

No one will shoot a reportage at the minimum ISO value. After all, this will be a high probability of not only shaking, but also blurring the object.

Even during the day, when shooting in the genre of reportage or street, I have set the ISO value of about 800-1000.

Night shots were taken at ISO 5000-6400.

And here the question arises before you: why are you shooting?

If it will be a postcard photo with subsequent publication in a magazine, newspaper or book, then use a tripod and the minimum ISO value!

If this is a reportage or street shooting with the presence of people in the frame, then we need sharp people, but not semi-transparent phantoms. To do this, we focus on exposure, and everything else is as it turns out.

If your photo will be published only on the Internet, where the resolution is still reduced when the image is uploaded to the site, then a slight presence of noise is not a problem.

The main thing is that your plot is interesting and then the noise will recede far into the background.

And if your plot is banal and boring, then no technique will save you, even if you shoot in medium format!

First, you always have to ask the question "what?", and then "how?"
