FFF - Cityscape with frontal flash

avatar

I did not stop only at street photography, that is, photographing people, but began to study the city landscape with a flash.

Close-up objects in the foreground are highlighted and the background darkens a lot.

If we take more general views, then the light-shadow transition becomes imperceptible.

A large-scale landscape without a foreground does not make sense at all to shoot with a flash - there will be no difference.

The flash can be used in bright sunlight, which creates contrasting deep shadows. But again, volume is lost.

Volume in painting and photography is achieved through plans and different illumination of plans. The front one should always be darker.

Flash has the exact opposite effect. But this property can be used as a creative technique.

It turns out something like an illustration, applique, as if the objects are superimposed on each other or pasted in.

This is all due to the fact that we are already accustomed to certain characteristics of the image. And this genre is not very widespread, and therefore steals attention.

There was also a feeling from the flash that it enhances the saturation of colors.

Of course, I began to try to illuminate everything with a flash, including graphic subjects.

If the pigeons were captured without flash, the effect would be the opposite: the pigeons would turn into dark silhouettes against a lighter background.

In general, this direction for me is like an unplowed field.

And I will come back to the front flash more than once.

In the meantime, in the next parts I will share another observation and research in this direction.
