[ESP/ENG]Échame el Cuento: El aroma a tetero ahumado/Tell Me a Story: The Scent of Smoked Milk Bottle
When I was a little girl, vacations meant leaving the city routine behind and traveling to the countryside to visit my grandmother. Those were wonderful days filled with dirt between my fingers, fruit trees to climb, and a freedom that didn’t exist anywhere else. But the most magical and tender moment of the day happened very early in the morning, when the chill of dawn still seeped into my bones and the house was just waking up.
There, over the bluish flame, my grandmother would bring the cow’s milk to a boil, then mix in the rice cream, pour it into the boiling milk along with a few lemon leaves and a little sugar, and wait patiently for it to cook. The heavy smell of kerosene immediately mingled with the sweet aroma of the bottle, with that smoky hint. For me, that combination—so strange to others—was synonymous with absolute security and happiness. As soon as we woke up, she would hand us the warm bottle.
