Proverbs Study 7 - Practical Guide to living

Good day Brothers and Sisters

Today we look at Proverbs 3:1-2

The theme of teaching is also a repetitive theme in Proverbs like we see here. A father teaching his son. Father God speaking to us, his children. Also the instruction to keep Gods law and commandments is repeated over and over in Proverbs.

This signals the importance of the subject. We cannot serve God properly without adhering to these instructions. The verse says let your heart keep my commands. We all know to keep God's commands but what we should strive for is for it to become heart knowledge and not only mind knowledge.

Once it is heart knowledge it becomes easy as the heart represent our spirit. Our spirit is the part where God speaks to us and where we hear God. So once we can get Gods commandments into our hearts it becomes our heart's desire to serve God.

Once again I quote one of my favourite verses:

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Psalms 119:11 NKJV

In verse 2 we see the promise of a reward that we can receive as a result of keeping the instruction,
a long life and peace. This peace is an inner peace from knowing that you keep God's Commandments and live a life pleasing to Him.

The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV

May this be true of your life. I marvel in the fact that God can rejoice over me. It puts an indescribable joy in my heart.

Thank you for taking this journey through Proverbs with me.
