A Glimpse of my Garden Life

I need and will post a Freewrite in just a little while. But the garden is calling and I need to get some work done before it gets too hot. For now, I am going to bring you some impressions of what is going on out there.

You see the beautiful yellow blossom - the image above? It is a squash flower and the flower is not only beautiful and gives many insects food and shelter, it is also edible and quite delicious. Of course, there is also a potential for a squash to grow from it and that is also a tasty addition to any meal.

These beauties have taken over my front yard. Right now, the window is open and you won't believe how many birds are out there carrying on a conversation. Such a lovely sound to write by - much better than the cars driving by ever so often.

The birds are there because they love to eat the sunflower seeds. I am okay with that. Birds do need food too. I have said before that my yard is full of wildlife - not all of the desirable kind. I really think that I am the only yard around that has lots of food growing. No wonder everyone wants to come here to eat.

Not all flowers need to showy. These are small but very beautiful. This reed is growing in the ditch that catches the waters coming off the street during a rainfall. It is one of the magical plants that can clean the water and soil from pollutants that might come in with the water from the street... Plants are magical!

This is my favorite time in the garden - something I don't do very often since there is always more work to be done. But once in a while, I actually sit down and enjoy the fruits of my labor. In this case, a cobbler made from fruit off my trees. Whipping cream is a must - just saying. And the cup holds one of my favorite beverages, ranked right behind coffee. A drink made from dandelion root, or rather a root in the same family called chicory. It is so delicious and at the same time good for the gut.

I hope you enjoyed your little glimpse into my garden life and show me what you are growing.

Love this post! I adore raw cream whipped cream, made only with a tablespoon or 2 of vanilla, no sugar. The cream we get is truly cream colored, not white. The vanilla makes it a deeper color. So good!

I grow chicory, as a possible coffee replacement for my husband, should it ever be needed...

I would love to have some of your cream!!! That sounds fantastic!
I drink a cup of coffee in the morning - and after noon, I switch to chicory. I should grow it too. But truthfully, I buy it from the co-op for less than $ 8 per pound, organic, roasted and ready to go. that saves me a lot of work!
