Christmas traditions are often handed down through generations. Other times, they make sense in the moment, get repeated and become traditions. One of the traditions my little one has developed over the years is leaving a letter for Santa...

Dear Santa

Here is this year's edition which is full of questions that seem to advance in complexity as she advances in age. You may need to open the original to make out the words. Here is the abridged version.

• Maybe not 20 of them, but quite a few inquiries nonetheless.

The Reply

It seemed Santa couldn't simply answer in writing as he had in the past due to the amount of questions and content that needed to be included. It also appears that Santa knows how to borrow a computer or whatever device he used, and print on the network printer.

I went to the trouble to type out his message for those of you who are curious as to the detail of his answers!

To start your letter out with a ‘thank you’ makes me proud of my decision to put you on the Nice List again. Game consoles are supposed to be really fun and the internet sometimes reduces the family fun...so I am glad you had fun with your family because of a gift.

You seem to enjoy many presents that are popular with so many kids your age but I would encourage you to write me a letter perhaps before Christmas Eve so that I can consider them. As it is, I believe you will be more than happy at what is under the tree from me and your family. You will be able to work hard to buy yourself anything that might be missing.
As for questions, my only wish is that you never stop asking questions and it leads to learning the most wonderful things.

1. Languages: I, naturally, speak all of the languages.;)
2. Belief: It makes me happy when people are free to believe what they choose.
3. Futuristic Jets: Though I may have been gifted with magic, I cannot travel to the future and simply equip contemporary jet engines. Perhaps I should look into better mufflers.
4. Sleigh Propulsion: The sleigh may not be able to fly without the reindeer but they, themselves, are powered by the same magic that makes it possible for me to visit so many families across the planet. So, both yes and no.
5. Female Reindeer: Male and female reindeer are strong enough to pull my sleigh and do indeed. Perhaps those movies are not with the times?
6. Language again: I cannot really remember my first language but I kind of understand them all as one. That may be a brain-full but I just speak to all people the same way.
7. Longevity: The spirit of Christmas, human kindness and unity are timeless. I guess that is what keeps me at it every year! 7b: I give presents to everyone. There are no strangers for me.
8. Sleep: I sleep quite a bit during the year. Preferably naps and sleeps adding up to 8 hours a day! Maybe a little more between Christmas and the new year.
9. Chimneys?: If I am powered by magic enough to visit every family in the world in 1 night,do you think I need a chimney?*

Santa Claus

What I learned from his answers is that he seems to be rather progressive, transparent, and seems to enjoy letting people believe what they choose to believe. Maybe, one of these years, I will stay up and have a beer with the old guy as he seems like my kinda dood.
