MY STEEM STORY

A Power House Creatives Initiative

Power House Creatives _night mode.png

Everyone has a story – and all our stories have something in common… we all started from nothing and knew nothing. People want to hear stories. They want to hear OUR stories — they want to know who we are, where we are from, what we are doing, who and what we love, what we have learnt and where we are going. People also want us to hear their story! Being a part of the Steem network is an individual journey for every single one of us and through this initiative we will share our stories not only with all who are already here – hopefully inspiring, guiding and informing them… but doing the same for everyone else in the world too. Through our stories we will prick the curiosity of those who have not yet arrived and illuminate and widen the already open doors to our one in a million blockchain.

We invite and encourage each and every one of you to participate and share your stories too! You can find the "how to" details at the end of this post.

What brings a rock star to live on a blockchain?

The introduction to STEEM may have been more important than the onboarding process in my case as a glowing and enthusiastic evangelist pushed me right through the technical on-boarding process. "There is this thing called Bitcoin, and another thing called Ethereum, but I am most excited at this social media platform." I was told tales of @broncnutz posting funny 5-minute videos and making $700. Decentralization, monetization, and freedom of expression as an early adopter were strong cases for STEEM. Plus, you could write about anything your want, make money, and we can get together for beers while we do that. I was IN!

I have my account....now what?

I am writing stuff and it is only good enough to get a couple upvotes worth pennies. This is not going to work. What do I do? This is probably where I can relay my nugget of wisdom as I deduced early on that the platform of success here rests upon 3 legs. Content (you have to produce good stuff,) Networking (you have to build your network of supporters and place in the community,) and Time.

Content

Without content, you have no skin in the game unless you buy a big stake out of the gate. Investment also has an undeniable impact on your experience and the value you bring to the blockchain.

Networking

You can produce the best stuff on the planet but if you do not make it onto the radar of the awesome supporters and leaders, you will be preaching the best seminar to the emptiest of halls.

Time

Even if you figure out the first 2, you will not build your empire or social club here if you don't stick around.

I did not have the luxury of buying myself a nice starting stake. I had never blogged before and literally had no chops despite being the son of a grammar teacher and doing little other than communicate for my whole professional career. I knew 1 person on STEEM and I was brand new with no lessons learned or victories to call my own. I literally had no legs to stand on, much like everyone who arrives on this blockchain.

From then til now...

The 2+ years since have been an exercise in writing practice, branding, reading, meeting, following and the roller coaster that comes with crypto. I have had an extra motivation to jump into my adventures with music, martial arts, business, sailing, family, sports, ladders, walks, photography and assorted hijinx because I could write a story, interact with the blockchain and people might like it. I have become the Steem Beerologist, built a business, made some nice money as a new professional restaurant critic, and completely plugged into a global network from this small town I call home.

Front Ends

There are so many front ends for this blockchain already. Games I haven't gotten to play, blogging front ends just not quite different enough to download and enjoy, so many apps to leverage and I have stuck to a few. STEEMit as the main platform of old. @Tasteem as a foodie platform with the contests, rewards and supportive community. Steepshot initially for quick pics and stories, then @appics. Steemworld.org for running my steem business. Marlians.com as a collection of blog stars from every corner of the globe adding Marlians tokens to the rewards. Endless possibilities and I look forward to discovering the next wave.

Communities

I managed to meet people initially from @knot which was a sailing group who gathered on Discord. Then, the BJJ crew at @steemitbjj. If there were groups like this, there had to be others. There definitely are. The ones I have spent most of my time with include @dcooperation (legion of vloggers,) #powerhousecreatives (@steemitbloggers- My real steem fam,) @innerblocks (grass roots social custodians and champions?) and all the nice folks at The Ramble Discord community lead by @shadowspub. There are so many others I will have to explore but the listed ones are enough for me to wanna never leave.

5 folks I think would be a great asset to those communities and I would like to see join #powerhousecreatives include @bethvalverde, @clumsysilverdad, @perceptualflaws, @d-pend and @thebigsweed

People have come and gone and I simply refuse to automate my curation, or trim my list of people I follow. It they are gone for good, they won't take any real estate on my feed. When they come back to check a pulse, I will be the first to welcome them back with a slightly larger upvote than I had before and a meaningful comment to let them know the personality of the blockchain lives on.

I refuse to namedrop my 100 favourite people here again but I have come to know gypsies, activists, philanthropists, animators, witnesses, warriors, entrepreneurs, leaders, financial analysts, martial artists, and some of the most interesting people I can imagine. With this community, you have the chance to become any of these through the information, opinion and links to the best sources on the rest of the internet.

If you aren't already a rock star when you arrive, most likely become one.

Some great advice @zekepickleman. And you have come a long way with someone who had no blogging "chops". That's for sure :)

Thanks for sharing your story

Exactly. Funny seeing people come and go and come back and then ask like - "hey I thought?" And my only reply is - where you been?

Finally time and WiFi to read all the mysteemstories. Fascinating to see how our lives could change from being a non blogger like us to well lets say near addict to steemit and steem. Oh and discord. And all true 3 keys are the most important but they are inscripties, it takes a while to know how they work. CONTENT TIME and NETWORKING became a part of my life.
Oh and glad to read you met gypsies, activists, philanthropists, animators, witnesses, warriors, entrepreneurs, leaders, financial analysts, martial artists but you forgot you met some blonds here aswell hahahah powerhouses with and without boots :)
Thanx
Happy weekend
Blog to you soon

Great that i finally have the time the WiFi and a cup of tea to get all the stories and read. I love the rocker , and how times can change from non bloggers to near addicts , and i agree on the 3 keys content, time and network, only it takes a long time to know how the keys work. But getting there ! Glad to read you met gypsies, activists, philanthropists, animators, witnesses, warriors, entrepreneurs, leaders, financial analysts, martial artists, but you forgot that you met blonds aswell, with or without boots powerhouses, that needed to be in here hahahahaha
Have a great weekend

HAHAHAHA!!! If I was given an intro to Steem that smelled and tasted as sweet as yours I would have jumped in straight away too - oh, wait... I did! - but still, your beginning sounds way cooler HAHA!

I did not have the luxury of buying myself a nice starting stake.

You and me both... in fact I still have not purchased a cent of steem to this day! So... when I do eventually reach "orca hood" (for whatever that is even worth), I will be brimming from ear to ear like a bloody Cheshire cat!

Does Steepshot still exist? I thought they disappeared. Shows what I now! lol.

@d-pend joined the other day.... did you miss the memo? :P

Thanks for this awesome contribution to our Steem Story initiative rockstar!
