La vida en la tierra estaba a punto de terminar. El Estado emitió un comunicado informando la situación al mundo. Sólo quedaban 12 horas para su destrucción total. Hombres, mujeres, niños, ancianos y mascotas decidieron caminar hacia el sitio de despegue de la gran nave que los llevaría a otro lugar: Las Esferas. Allí se embarcarían hacia lo desconocido, pero tenían la promesa de sobrevivir.

Entre la multitud, Helen caminaba junto a su hijo. Ellos eran los únicos sobrevivientes de la oleada que se llevó a muchas personas. Ambos caminaban entre la gente. De vez en cuando, paraban para buscar algo de comer y descansar unos minutos.

Mientras caminaban, Helen pudo escuchar a dos personas que hablaban sobre Las Esferas y sus bondades. Ella se aferraba a lo que escuchaba, sin embargo, en su corazón tenía un mal presentimiento. Había mucha gente caminando y dudaba que todos tuvieran la oportunidad de irse. Ella confiaba en que su profesión de científica sirviera de algo.
Siguió avanzando. Hasta llegar a un muro improvisado.

Su temor creció más. A su alrededor veía mucho desconsuelo, angustia, miedo. Se había dado una orden: el Estado al ver que no podía seguir admitiendo a más personas, decidió que sólo viajarían a las esferas los seleccionados en un sorteo mundial. Su corazón se destruyó. Eso significaba que podía separarse de su hijo.

A su lado, una chica pretendía comprar su entrada ofreciendo sus servicios al militar. Un millonario ofrecía dinero para garantizar su entrada. De pronto, escuchó un disparo, un anciano prefirió quitarse la vida antes que vivir en un planeta a punto de extinguirse.

Helen, angustiada, se hace un espacio entre todos y saca su carnet de Científica, pero nada de lo que hizo persuadió a los militares. Su hijo sólo miraba a su madre y lloraba. No quería quedarse sólo y tampoco quería que su mamá se quedara.

El niño observó que en el gran muro, había un espacio sin resguardo y pensó en colarse por ahí. Se lo mostró a Helen y a ambos se miraron. Ambos sabían que sería su última oportunidad antes de hacerse el sorteo. Esperaron el momento más adecuado. Llegó la oportunidad, no había guardias, ni vigilancia. Pusieron en marcha su plan. Como pudieron se metieron por la ajustada entrada: primero él y luego ella. Al entrar se mezclaron con los que ya estaban allí y pasaron desapercibidos -¡lo logramos! Pensó, Helen.

Pero algo rompió el momento de triunfo, sonó la alarma que marcaba la extinción de la tierra. Todos corrían despavoridos, intentaban entrar a la nave de cualquier manera. La tierra era una mezcla de temblores, grande tornados, Tsunamis. De pronto, un gran silencio inundó todo. Se acabó el mundo y con él todo lo que conocían.

Helen lloraba y se abrazaba a su hijo, mientras la nave la llevaba a las Esferas, a un mundo totalmente desconocido para ellos.

Life on earth was about to end. The state issued a statement informing the world of the situation. There were only 12 hours left until its total destruction. Men, women, children, elders and pets decided to walk to the launch site of the great ship that would take them to another place: the spheres. There they would embark into the unknown, but they had the promise of survival.

In the crowd, Helen was walking with her son. They were the only survivors of the wave that took many people with it. They both walked among the people. From time to time, they would stop to get something to eat and rest for a few minutes.

As they walked, Helen could hear two people talking about the spheres and their goodness. She held on to what she heard, yet in her heart she had a bad feeling. There were many people walking and she doubted that they would all have a chance to leave. She was confident that her profession as a scientist would help.
She continued to move forward. Until she reached a makeshift wall.

Her fear grew stronger. All around her, she saw much distress, anguish, fear. An order had been given: the State, seeing that it could no longer admit more people, decided that only those selected in a world-wide draw would travel to the spheres. His heart was destroyed. That meant she could be separated from her son.

At his side, a girl was trying to buy his ticket by offering her services to the military. A millionaire was offering money to guarantee her ticket. Suddenly, he heard a shot, an old man preferred to take his own life rather than live on a planet on the verge of extinction.

Helen, in anguish, makes room for everyone and takes out her science card, but nothing she did persuaded the military. Her son just looked at his mother and cried. He didn't want to be left alone and he didn't want his mother to stay either.

The boy noticed that on the big wall, there was an unguarded space and thought about sneaking in. He showed it to Helen and they both looked at each other. They both knew it would be their last chance before the draw. They waited for the right moment. The opportunity came, there were no guards, no surveillance. They set their plan in motion. As they could, they went through the tight entrance, first him and then her. As they entered they mixed with those who were already there and went unnoticed - we did it! He thought, Helen.

But something broke the moment of triumph, the alarm sounded that marked the extinction of the earth. Everyone was running scared, trying to get into the ship anyway. The earth was a mixture of tremors, big tornadoes, tsunamis. Suddenly, a great silence flooded everything. The world ended and with it everything they knew.

Helen was crying and hugging her son, as the ship took her to the Spheres, to a world totally unknown to them.
