Seven Days, Seven Games: Day 3: Stuff the Stocking

This game I made with a particular challenge in mind: design and complete a game using no more than $20 worth of items from the craft store.

I may have cheated a little by using a laminator, but I already had the laminator, so I'm letting myself get away with it. I ended up with primarily a card game with pieces involved: Stuff the Stocking

The goal of the game is pretty simple: taking turns, be the first to stuff your own stocking with the items required. The cards let you add items to your stocking or, more mischieviously, sabotage your opponent!

Here are the rules, and then screenshots of the action cards.

Purpose of Game

The Purpose of Stuff the Stocking is to be the first person to stuff your stocking with the provided items.

Pieces

  • 4 Stockings
  • 4 Candy Canes
  • 4 Jingle Bells
  • 4 Trains
  • 4 Toys
  • 50 Cards

Summary

Stuff the Stocking is a game for 2-4 players. The object of the game is to be the first person to load your stocking with four individual items: a candy cane, toy train, toy, and jingle bell. The toys do not need to be loaded in any particular order.

Game Play

Give each player one stocking. Spread the stocking stuffers out between the players; they do not need to be in any particular order. Shuffle the cards and place them in a single pile between the players.

Decide who goes first. This can be done in any method deemed necessary: dice rolling, coin flipping, by age, and so forth. The person going first picks up the card on top of the deck and follows the instructions on the card. Play continues in a clockwise direction until one player has loaded his or her stocking with 4 unique items. If the players run out of cards before this happens, shuffle the cards and place them back down face down between the players and continue until someone wins.

Winning the Game

The game is won when one person has loaded her or her stocking with four unique items:

  • 1 candy cane
  • 1 jingle bell
  • 1 toy train
  • 1 toy

Definitely a good themed gamed for the upcoming holidays to keep the spirit alive. It's basically a standard set collecting game, but with a creative twist. And you can get as mean as you want with the cards, which makes it even more fun.😂
Maybe even add random cards that make u waste a turn while you have to sing a song or something.

Haha. "Sing a Christmas song or lose your turn." Love it!
