A semi-homegrown meal
I have lately been engaging in some 'urban gardening,' which is really just my term for "trying to grow some veggies where I can find the space and it doesn't look like hell to my neighbours." There are a lot of flowerpots around my yard with veggies in them.
The season is still early and most everything is still in the "I hope it survives" stage. Seriously, this makes me wonder how we ever survived as a species. We need to eat daily. Growing food takes time. How did we do it? Sheer dumb luck, I say.
Regardless, the season is still early, but my lettuces and some onions are doing well; well enough that they were deserved of a small harvest. I'm growing two lettuces right now: a butter lettuce and Romaine lettuce (and some arugula, if you want to call that lettuce too). The butter lettuce is great for a salad. The Romaine lettuce, though often used for salads, I thought was just the right size for hamburgers.

Seriously, does that Romaine not look like it needs to be wrapped around a cheeseburger? I have plenty more where this came from, too. I see plenty of cheeseburgers in my future.
I mean, look at this.

The butter lettuce and onions made it into a salad. Unfortunately everything else was store bought: celery, carrots, and cheese (I'm not about to try to make my own cheese).
I've got some additional veggies on the way. There is, as I type, exactly one small green tomato on a tomato bush (one of three tomato bushes) and there are beans, peas, and cucumbers on the way. And strawberries! I should get a strawberry harvest this year, too. Those will be turned into ice cream.
Mmmm.

Looks good man. You have a nice crop there and I am kind of jealous of that burger. I am now really hungry too. Maybe a burger is on the menu tonight.. just maybe.
Good luck with the rest of the growing season. I hope you manage to survive. lol. I am sure you will, because we have for so many years before not knowing what to expect. hehe.

I did some more digging and gardening and such this weekend. I'm thinking by the end of the year the yard will be ready for next year's growing season. It's a good thing I have a nearby grocery store to back me up! 😂
And you know.. maybe cheesemaking is in my future!
