A Mountain Full Moon

Join us in a two hour full moon hunt in the mountains!

We arrived at a local nature reserve at 7pm and selected a high spot to park the car. My wife and our little dog came with, as I knew it was going to be a long wait. So they could also breathe some fresh mountain air while I was outside with my camera.
Come and hunt the moon with us!

ynidlk.jpg

This was the view that we had of the Hottentots Holland Mountains.

The big tree at the front here was my moon marker, as I knew that the moon would appear at the tight shoulder of the valley between the mountains!

ekcv7s.jpg

Bam! There was the full moon, but the clouds had other ideas Lol.

hgyffy.jpg

A beautiful sight indeed, as the moon struggled to clear the cloud!

1z8ul1.jpg

Yay! The moon was almost free of the cloud!

bkkgfy.jpg

But Wait! The cloud has made another plan to hide the moon!

i8bf4x.jpg

The cloud slipped in below the moon!

8pcknd.jpg

I thought this was it, as I had waited long enough and now the cloud would stream across to cover the moon!

blrnxx.jpg

But something told me to wait a bit to see what would happen!

da0ral.jpg

Ah! The moon started to slip out of the cloud again!

idksf5.jpg

Desperately the cloud tried to cling to the moon!

3nffqr.jpg

Free at last, the moon entered the thinner haze of the cloudy atmosphere.

z4bbxx.jpg

Finally there she was. Mother moon in all of her glory!

IMG_5904.JPG

Still some cloud bottom right, but it was worth the long wait!

And so my job was done, as I set myself the target of getting tonight's full moon in the mountains. While all of this was going on, I also saw another awesome scene of the sun like a ball of fire setting in the distance over the sea.
No need to guess what my next target is, as I am going to the beach late in the day to get the sun going down on the ocean!

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for visiting a post by @papilloncharity

You got some beautiful shots there! Unfortunately, here in the western US we're looking at heavy cloud covers today and tonight.

Interesting factoid about today's full Moon: On the US East Coast, the actual moment of fullness occurs at 12:12... on 12/12.

Thank you and I am glad that you liked it my friend.
I think you guys are about 7 hours behind our time here in South Africa and how amazing is your 12:12...12/12 story.
I hope that the date and time will be a special blessing for you guys.

Now for a proper comment - WOWZERS! You did a wonderful job hunting and capturing La Luna, even though she kept playing peekaboo with the clouds. I'm hoping to have clear skies for our own moon show tonight, but I'm wicked jelly of your location - well worth the drive to the mountains! Thanks for sharing the beauty, @papilloncharity!

Thank you my dear friend, and I believe that there is nothing like the mountains to really capture the effects of the full moon.
But in saying this, tonight at the ocean, after I had done the late sunset, let's see what the moon will show.
I hope that you also had a great view of the moon!
Blessings and thank you for the kind support!

Oh, the hide and seek you had to play, but, you truly came out a winner! That is an incredibly beautiful shot and yes! Oh, envy for sure!

I believe here on the East Coast of the US, it will be late, but, it will most likely be covered up. I'm not a gambler, but, I do like to play tag with Mother Nature!

So, I will be taking my chance tonight and seeing what I come up with. I can hardly wait to see what else you got! :)

Have a great night!

@dswigle Thank you and remember that patience is the name of the game Lady Denise.
A friend on here informed me that the time of the full moon on the East Coast will be 12:12 on today's date of 12/12.
Certainly a great blessing for for you in this unusual timing and date.
A least I sincerely hope so!
Thank you once again for the kindness in your heart with the tip!

Gorgeous shots captured of the man in the moon, battling to get away from the clouds Stephen.

Still raining here in Durban, everything is dripping wet and I dread that sun coming out, we are going to be steam broiled for sure!

Thank you Lady Joan and oh yeah, the humidity in KZN was always a big battle for me. I remember a time when you said that you so wish it would rain there Lol We actually prayed about it Lol

Good news is some of the smaller dams have filled up a bit!

I did a rain dance when it started to arrive, then considered buying a surf board to get around, now growing mildew.

Back up plan if we have electricity, is to hide out under the air conditioner throughout summer months, patiently wait for our gorgeous winters to arrive.

We humans are "Oh So Fickle", Stephen.

Hahaha, a lament of fickleness here Lady Joan.
Joy at first until the "buts" arrive.
But it rained too much, but the heats too bad and the entire process is repeated when winter arrives.
You are right, as we will always find something wrong in everything.
Blessings and happy summer!

Never too cold for me, always layer up if necessary. Heat is awful, nowhere to hide, Oh well enjoy the summer.

What can I say about the heat Lady Joan?
Too hot to go outside, too hot to stay inside, lethargic and bored.
Such is life hahaha

What a great place to photograph the moon! Right between the mountains (which are beautiful themselves) was superb! Glad the clouds mostly cooperated.

T hank you my friend, we share the love for the mountains.
Today, I have combined the ocean and the mountains, as we went to take the sun setting on the sea and a bit later the moon rising over the mountains from the beach. Will post about it a bit later!
Blessings!
