Wednesday Walk In Asphalt and Haiku

shadows on blacktop
calm my inner turbulence
just before sunset

mountains and valleys
on the skin of my driveway -
who cares besides me?

the matter at hand
becomes surpassingly fine
with little pfutzing

the greens of asphalt
which perhaps only I see
impress me the most

too awed to be quick
I have only these to show
of the great many

This is my entry to @tattoodjay's and @elizacheng's combined #wednesdaywalk and #makemesmile challenges which you can find here.

By now some of you know I love both asphalt and haiku.
What better way to spend a Wednesday morning than putting them both together?
The birds astonished me when thousands upon thousands flew suddenly through my yard, and were gone just as suddenly.

All images are my own unless otherwise stated.

I don't have a clue about haiku but it's lovely all the same.
Loves asphalt...something perhaps for your Tinder profile:)

hahahahahahaha! I'll never write about asphalt again! Check out the second photo please. does it look like little mountains or depressions to you?

Well it did after I read the poem but at first, I thought they were worms or crawly things of some sort.

I just realized they are depressions, but I can only sometimes see them that way. When I do, it's hard to unsee it. It looks like protrusions, but they are dents. Thanks for taking a second look for me. I was wondering if it was just me.

You remind me of the radiator grill in my daughter's 1917 apartment.
Nobody but me does the "Magic Eye" thing where this pattern becomes 3-D if you let your eyes go out of focus. It'd do no good to post a photo here. But if you loved Magic Eye books, you might find yourself staring, out of focus, at the shirt of the guy ahead of you in church, hoping to pull the third dimension into view.... Yes, I should be paying attention to CHURCH not shirts!

I took the damn photo, it's my very own asphalt, and I can not see that photo properly except for very briefly and unexpectedly. It is depressions, not tiny mountains. There's nothing jutting up from the surface. It's driving me a little nuts

Sounds kinda like that Magic Eye going on.
I totally get it and empathize! In the photo, I see goose bumps, not dimples...

Fab Photos, as always, and great haiku! This one really speaks to me:

mountains and valleys
on the skin of my driveway -
who cares besides me?

I care!

What a fantastic metaphor - the look of plucked chicken skin, or lizard skin - I see it. You have such a gift!!

Your photos should win contests like these:
25 Wildlife Photography Award Finalists #AMAZING photos

Ok, this contest specifies wildlife in the photo... but your stuff is awesome with or without critters!!

Thank you for the support, but for real? I think if I really got into it, got a real camera (which I do not have time to learn how to use) and learned some photo editing tricks I could put out some great photos. I do like a lot of mine myself (two weeks ago wednesday walk fist photo for one). But how many pictures of asphalt - may favorite subject apparently - can people stomach?

LOL! Ok, the asphalt photos won't qualify for a wildlife photo contest...
but you have the eye... not the best of cameras yet, but the eye!
and the gift of haiku!
We are lucky to have you here at Steemit.
