Beautiful Sunday: tree trimming day

(Edited)

Finally the rainy has stopped pouring for few days ahead of the weekend and some workers were available to trim tree branches in my garden. There were eight tall trees waiting to be trimmed; these trees have been growing on the land for several years. Perhaps the seeds came within the soil that was brought in to level the land a long time ago. These trees have several names: Burma Padauk, Andaman rosewood, Indian rosewood. These are hardwood trees which could be used for making furniture and building houses. So, later on I could sell some big trees to local merchants to bring in some income during my retirement. Then, new trees could be planted for future security.

Meanwhile their branches have become too overgrown and they spread all over the place giving needed shade on very hot days. But the mango trees and other trees could not get enough sunshine. That’s why we needed a major trimming before these trees overtook the whole area. The garden was becoming too dark and scary even during daytime. My gardener was quite afraid of encountering some big snakes at the back of the garden. I found that I was reluctant to walk there during the evening or after dark. We needed sunshine to reach those fruit trees and the ground.

There were together four workers working as a team: the youngest worker was a natural tree climber, the rest had to cut big branches into smaller pieces and pile them nicely on the ground. The major obstacle was the numerous nests belonging to fierce credit ants. These ants were very aggressive abs defensive; they moved so fast to attack everyone in the garden. We were all yelling because of the sharp stinging bites by these red ants. Some workers were so angry by the attack that I could hear swearing loudly among the fallen branches.

We tried to remove these ants’ nests as soon as we could spot them among branches. These would be put into several big bags so that they could be released later in a far away woods. I told them that they had to face deportation as they did not have any visa for staying in the garden. They had spread their nests to almost all the fruit trees in the garden making it very difficult for us to trim all fruit trees. So it was imperative that we had to reduce the number of red ants on those trees. Now these ants have become very smart; they made their nests on high branches beyond our reach.

We all worked very hard as a team and could get a lot done within two hours. They had to get back to the building site after lunch. I gave them some tip for their lunch so that they would buy something special at the local market on their way back. We still have to do some trimming in the bamboo groves; but this will have to wait till next month. I always feel very grateful to these kind workers who were very hard working and friendly to us. So we always give them our agricultural produce from our garden to be shared among their friends and families. They will be looking forwards to some mangoes in a few months’ time.

Wishing you all a very nice and productive day.

Stay warm and cheerful.

Oh my gosh, that looks like dangerous work! I can't believe that last picture of the worker just standing right on the narrow branch that he is sawing off. I could imagine him being bounced off when the branch lets go.

It sounds like you are letting some nice light in with the trimming! I hope your garden is a nicer safer place after the work is done. The ants sound terrible, though. They seem very destructive. Do you really need to transplant them somewhere? I think I would personally keep them in the bags, if they are a nasty and invasive species (and certainly not endangered).

Oh! Yup! This is a risky task but we had the best climber! LoL
We made sure he was always holding on to the other branch while sawing.

Yah! Those ants are truly horrible and there are plenty of them! The ant population grows too fast! But being Buddhists we refrain from taking other beings’ lives, so they have to be caught and released in far away wooded area.

I do hope the sunshine will be bright and warm for the ground level plants and mango trees. This place looks much lighter and safer for an evening walk.

Cheers.

(Hope your hip is feeling much better too).

wow those workers are amazing for putting up with those ants. You tell the ants they are deported and they just come up with a plan. We should learn from them haha.

I wish you a good day!

Yeah! Those ants are real genius! With such small brains, but they could accomplish a lot! Hopefully we’ll have more mangoes next year!

Have a nice week.

Wow! I didn't know ants could build nests on trees! They are smart!

Yeah! These ants are too smart for their small size! I wish they would migrate to other wooded areas by themselves.
