En este segundo día el reto me pide comentar 20 cosas sobre mí. Voy a resumir la conclusión a la que he llegado, luego de preguntárselo muchas veces al espejo y de prestarle atención a lo que los otros han dicho de mí.

Soy perfeccionista. Por alguna razón que aún no he descubierto aprendí, o nací ya con eso, a pensar que las cosas nunca están acabadas, que se puede seguir haciendo la tarea hasta que quede impecable. Esto pudiera ser positivo porque siempre se busca que las cosas queden bien, pero lo convierte a uno en esclavo de la inseguridad. Vivo pensando, ¿estará bien o mal?, ¿Suficiente o insuficiente?

I am a perfectionist. For some reason that I have not yet discovered, I learned, or was born with it, to think that things are never finished, that you can keep on doing the task until it is impeccable. This could be positive because you always want things to look good, but it makes you a slave to insecurity. I live thinking, will it be good or bad, sufficient or insufficient?

Me cuesta encontrar el punto medio. Una buena parte de mi tiempo la he invertido tratando de salir de los extremos y encontrar una perspectiva que me acerque el punto medio de las cosas, porque muy pocas veces la realidad es de extremos, generalmente somos nosotros lo que la vemos completamente mala o completamente buena.

I find it difficult to find the middle ground. Soy un creyente en la bondad humana. Muchas veces me siento defraudado ante ciertos comportamientos de mis semejantes, donde se pone de manifiesto la mala fe de las personas. Ante esas situaciones miro al cielo y me repito: los malos son una excepción, la bondad es mayoritaria y por eso la mayoría son gente buena.

I am a believer in human goodness. Many times I feel disappointed by certain behaviors of my fellow men, where the bad faith of people is evident. In these situations I look to heaven and repeat to myself: bad people are an exception, goodness is the majority and that is why the majority are good people.

Le doy un gran valor a la amistad verdadera. Mi grupo de amigos es poco numeroso, pero tengo la dicha de contar con valiosas amistadas con las que he compartido por treinta y cuarenta años.

I place great value on true friendship. My group of friends is small, but I have the joy of having valuable friendships that I have shared with for thirty and forty years.

No soporto la injusticia. Me cuesta mucho quedarme callado y no intervenir ante una situación de atropello y abuso. La indiferencia no está en mi temperamento.

I learned to value spiritual life. In my youthful years I renounced religious beliefs, I confused many things that took me away from the spiritual path, but life gave me the opportunity to amend the course and now with my spirituality I feel a lot of peace.

Soy un apasionado del conocimiento. No puedo pasar un día sin que busque de aprender algo nuevo, todo el tiempo ando investigando sobre cualquier tema.

I am passionate about knowledge. I can't go a day without looking to learn something new, all the time I'm researching on any subject.

Me gusta ser profesor. Una de las cosas buenas que me ha pasado en la vida es haber descubierto mi vocación por la docencia. Durante más de cuarenta años he sido profesor y en lo que mejoren ciertas condiciones espero retomar mi cátedra universitaria.

I like being a teacher. One of the good things that has happened in my life is that I have discovered my vocation for teaching. For more than forty years I have been a teacher and as long as certain conditions improve I hope to resume my university professorship.

Sí me dejaran abandonado en una isla desierta pediría pocas cosas: una buena cama, una almohada, las cobijas y un montón de libros.

Disfruto mucho cocinando lo poco que sé. Una de las grandes satisfacciones que he tenido es aprender a cocinar unos cuantos alimentos, se me da bien, el guiso de lentejas, la pasta con ajo y el pan casero.
