Struck by lightning- short story

The clouds started to gather and the rumbling of the weather could be heard from miles away. The lightning struck in the middle of the forest and the whole forest lit up. It looked like streaks of pure white crackled against a stormy blanket of grey.

Jesse thought that it was safe to hide here, but she realized that it was not. Rain started falling and she was soaking wet within a few minutes. She escaped the claws of death after months of being held captive. Her wrists were raw and bloody where she was tied up and her clothes were torn.  She knew he was going to catch her again. He wouldn't allow her to get away. Not after what he did to her.

She remembers the day she was abducted like yesterday. He knew she was on her way to the airport and would not have constant contact with her family and friends for a while. She took a sabbatical from work and planned out her travel schedule perfectly.

She needed time to think. She needed to get away from Tom because she couldn't forgive him for what he has done.  She would have traveled and fulfill a lifelong dream while she was away. She promised Tom that she would give him an answer when she came back.

He wasn't happy and begged her to stay, but she couldn't. He cried while she packed, and at one point she even felt sorry for him. But she knew if she just gave in, then it would happen again.

Jesse moved in behind a tree. The leaves protected her from the rain a bit and she rested. The rain stopped for a while and she started to move again. She had no idea in which direction she was moving but every step meant one step further away from him.

The forest lit up.  She turned around to look back and saw the figure behind her coming closer faster than she could run. The rain blinded her sight, and she expected him to grab her from behind at any second. She held her breath and expected the worst. She prayed to God to save her and then lightning struck again. She could here the bloodcurdling scream behind her and when she looked back, she saw Tom fell to the ground.

He was right behind her and as he lifted the axe to stop her, lightning struck and she watched him die right in front of her.

She fell to the ground and started crying.  She could hear the sound of cars nearby and walked towards the main road.  She looked pathetic as she walked but she didn't care. The nightmare was finally over.

The rain kept falling.

Dog in my home is terrified of lightning, my late brothers dog comes to "doggie day care center" when weather threatens with electrical storms, or endless rain as we have just experienced with my sister-in-law working.

Yes everything is dripping! Hopefully the sun holds for a day or two to dry out a little without getting too hot, Oh we fickle humans!

And so we are...complaining about everything. Now it's the wind on our side. Hopefully just to blow away all the clouds so that our clothes at least can dry. And not to talk about the loadshedding.... that causes us not to have water so it's dry inside and wet outside...ha ha ha
