Mi estilo de vida ecológico/My eco-lifestyle

A medida que los seres humanos nos desarrollamos y evolucionamos, vamos adoptando diferentes estilos de vida, cambiamos de gustos musicales, de residencia, de amigos; incluso las cosas que nos gustaban pueden dejar de hacerlo, cediéndole el paso a otras, o simplemente nuevas cosas se incorporan y vamos moldeando nuestra forma de ser, nuestro estilo.



Yo con el paso del tiempo estoy adoptando un modelo más ecológico, en medida de lo posible (en las circunstancias de mi país y mi poder adquisitivo). Este estilo más sensible con lo ambiental. Además, de ser especialista en el área de las ciencias ambientales, he decidido hacer cambios en mi vida. Quizás muchos también hacen su parte, y otros no entiendan esos cambios, pero en fin son parte del estilo que cada quién decide tener.



Hoy comparto con ustedes la historia de cómo empecé uno de los cambios en mis patrones de consumo. Espero sea de su agrado.

¿Cómo me di cuenta que debía hacer un cambio?

Cuando me di cuenta de que uno de los plásticos que encontraba en los sedimentos de las costas de mi país eran restos de esponjas que empleamos en nuestros hogares para lavar los platos, sentí la necesidad de hacer un cambio para evitar generar este tipo de contaminantes (poliuretano). Recordé que hace muchos años había visto a algunas personas en un pueblo cercano usar algo natural, no recordaba su nombre, pero una amiga me dijo que se conocí popularmente como "servilleta de pobre". En seguida le comenté que es no debía ser su nombre porque más bien la gente que la utiliza es muy consciente y no tienen que ver nada con la economía. También se llama estropajo.



Su nombre científico es Luffa operculata y es típica de clima tropicales. Buscando en internet pude conocer su nombre en francés "lavette", generalmente la venden y utilizan frotarse mientras se toma un baño. Pero yo la deseo emplear para lavar los platos.

En la búsqueda de mi esponja ecológica

Conseguirla la esponja era complicado por la situación de pandemia sumado a la situación de escasez de combustible en mi país. A principios de este año, hice un viaje muy corta a un estado vecino (Anzoátegui) para reunirme con un equipo de trabajo, con el que pensamos hacer una movida ecológica, fue algo mágico si se quiere porque, yo tuve que esperar que pasaran por mí cuando arribé, así que entré a una panadería y pedí un café. Mientras esperaba, llegó un señor, un indígena a la panadería justo vendiendo lo que estaba queriendo comprar hace meses.



Rápidamente le pregunté el precio, algo que era una dificultad porque en mi país es muy escaso el efectivo (moneda bolívares); de hecho tengo más de un año y medio sin tocar un billete, solo hago transacciones bancarias con mi teléfono, tarjeta de débito e internet. Ante esta dificultad, el señor me propuso que comprara un pan, así que hicimos una especie de trueque. El amable señor no comprendía mi alegría al adquirir mis servilletas ecológicas.


Yo le sonreí y le di las gracias diciéndole que muchas gracias, porque yo tenía tiempo buscando lo que el vendía. Luego el me respondió con una frase genial, que se me quedó grabada: "Hoy yo salí a buscar a alguien y tu saliste a buscar algo y nos encontramos". Me pareció una frase muy profunda porque marqué mi deseo, mi intención y aunque en ese momento no lo esperaba, y llegó. Desde entonces lavo mis platos con mis "servilletas eco-conscientes"

Mi invitación es a conectarse con sus deseos para que se materialicen y que entre sus deseos se encuentre ayudar a nuestro planeta. Un paso a la vez.

As human beings develop and evolve, we adopt different lifestyles, we change our musical tastes, our residence, our friends; even the things we used to like may cease to do so, giving way to others, or simply new things are incorporated and we shape our way of being, our style.



As time goes by, I am adopting a more ecological model, as far as possible (in the circumstances of my country and my purchasing power). This style is more sensitive to the environment. Besides being a specialist in the area of environmental sciences, I have decided to make changes in my life. Perhaps many also do their part, and others do not understand these changes, but in the end, they are part of the style that each one decides to have.



Today I share with you the story of how I started one of the changes in my consumption patterns. I hope you like it.

How did I realize I had to make a change?

When I realized that one of the plastics I found in the sediments of the coasts of my country were the remains of sponges that we use in our homes to wash dishes, I felt the need to make a change to avoid generating this type of pollutants (polyurethane). I remembered that many years ago I had seen some people in a nearby town using something natural, I did not remember its name, but a friend told me that it was popularly known as "poor man's napkin". At once I commented to her that is should not be its name because rather the people who use it are very conscious and have nothing to do with the economy. It was also called a scouring pad.



Its scientific name is Luffa operculata and it is typical of tropical climates. Searching on the internet I could know its French name "lavette", generally, they sell it and use rubbing while taking a bath. But I want to use it to wash the dishes.

Getting the sponge was complicated by the pandemic situation coupled with the fuel shortage situation in my country. Earlier this year, I made a very short trip to a neighboring state (Anzoátegui) to meet with a work team, with which we plan to make an ecological move, it was something magical if you will because, I had to wait for them to pick me up when I arrived, so I went into a bakery and asked for a coffee. While I was waiting, a gentleman arrived, an indigenous man to the bakery just selling what I was wanting to buy months ago.



I quickly asked him the price, something that was difficult because in my country cash (bolivar currency) is very scarce; in fact, I have more than a year and a half without touching a bill, I only do banking transactions with my phone, debit card, and internet. Faced with this difficulty, the gentleman suggested that I buy a loaf of bread, so we made a kind of barter. The kind gentleman did not understand my joy at acquiring my ecological napkins.


I smiled and thanked him and told him to thank you very much because I had been looking for what he was selling for a long time. Then he answered me with a great phrase, which stuck with me: "Today I went out to look for someone and you went out to look for something and we found each other". I thought it was a very profound phrase because I marked my desire, my intention and although at that moment I did not expect it, it came. Since then I wash my dishes with my "eco-conscious napkins".

Oye tu experiencia es un ejemplo de como el universo mueve sus engranajes para conceder lo que uno desea con anhelo. Aqui en Mexico he visto esa esponja en los supermercados pero para baño, y de paso son bien caras. Cuando era niña recuerdo que mi mamá usaba de esa esponja por lo económica y era fácil de conseguir entonces. Me agradó leerte Gea. Te mando un fuerte abrazo! 🤗
