A Witch in My Garden: "A Delicate Cicada Ceresa Taurini in My Blackberry Plants"
Hello My Dear Witches...!
A couple of months ago I had to cut the small blackberry grass plants that were in my garden disaster, however and thanks to this multiplies as the weeds are multiplying new seedlings and with it appear new "bugs" as is the case of this little friend I met this morning, the truth is that my little garden never ceases to amaze me.
This small and tender cicada, about 5 millimeters long, surprised me this morning when watering my plants, a Ceresa Taurini , and that receives its name thanks to the protuberances that protrude from its head, similar to the horns of a bull, and that investigating a little, I could see that it loves to be among the trees and fruit plants, such as blackberries, strawberries, cherries and raspberries, I think this friend has good tastes. The strange thing for me is to see her in a plant that still does not have fruits, and that for the moment does not augur them because it does not even flower yet.
It is very common to find ants near this small cicada, because she excretes the sugars that her body can not process, and the ants go after her taking advantage of this nectar called melon, honoring the saying that prays, what is waste for some is food for others, not nice by the way.
I would like to know a little more about them, their habits and if they have any differences or similarities with the big cicadas, what I have noticed is that they remain almost immobile for long periods of time in the same place, I imagine that absorbing the nutrients from the plants where they park. And even though my blackberry plants still don't have fruits, I hope I won't have many of these bullfighting cicadas for them when this happens.
¡In nature, what is garbage for some is food for others!

Excellent done!
I wonder if the ants ever actually attack the bug because of the sweetness of its excretions, or if nature has provided them with the logic that it's better to not kill the bug, but rather to just go after the excretions and let the bug to to produce it?
Interesting topic; nice job!
He was for two days in the same plants and I always saw the ants near him but I also asked myself that question, did he leave, or did the ants eat him?
How dainty and well camouflaged in the plants @fmbs25 interesting to learn about such a small species.
Nice shots. Better camera than I have for sure 😉

que bonitas fotografias, yo he visto ese animalito por ahi. feliz navidad brujita
Interesting little bug. A garden yields lots of bugs and insects.
Very interesting garden feature! 😊 most of the time I'm not aware of the tiny creatures that live there 😁

What an interesting little creature @fmbs25. Isn't nature facinating, such detail in such a small insect. Hopefully it won't prove to be destructive to your berries :) Great photos!
And then when they become adults you can hear them all over in the hot sunshine my friend. Their song always tell that there is much heat in the sun.
I made a video to capture their sound and must look for it.
Blessings!
How interesting to know that, I remember having seen them before but the truth is that I had not paid attention to them until now! It would be good to listen to them to know how they sound.
I hope that they are the same ones that we have here in South Africa.
The blistering African sun can make anything sing Lol.
Blessings!
Fascinating info about these cicadas. Are they noisy like the big ones?
I wouldn't know, but our dear @papilloncharity tells me that they make a sound when it's very hot, it would be interesting to hear it, the big ones make a sound that tends to stun a little.
Thanks for your post and information about this interesting visitor in our garden. The fact that you took the time to find out about this insect and its habits and its usefulness in the insection world makes your content even more interesting.
There are so many small insects that I see almost every day and I really don't know if they are good or bad, that have made me interested in knowing them a little more, because sometimes we look for information on the Internet and we only find a couple of photos with a name!

Nature certainly does have a way of taking care of all of it's own, doesn't it? If we let it we could let the ecosystem be fully sustainable. I'd say I won't eat waste, though, but honey is tasty. Mmmm.
Totally according to you, honey is very rich, hahaha, and if, nature is totally wonderful, it is lamentable that many of the things that alter it or to put it better, all that alters it is by the hand of man!
