En mi imaginación se la atribuiría al muy refranero Sancho Panza, escudero del ilustre caballero de la triste figura, Don Quijote de la Mancha y en tal caso al ilustre Manco de Lepanto Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Alimento universal, que según la cultura será de maíz, arroz o trigo este refrán como muchos otros es interpretado como malicioso en el sentido de que con tal de lograr un objetivo no importa recibir una ofensa, pero es mi entender que si me dan el primero y lo recibo porque me gusta, no tengo que recibir el segundo y bien se lo puede quedar el dador, que si no lo recibo sigue siendo suyo.
