The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same...

In some ways, it feels like the "shine" seems to have worn off the "bloom" of the Covid-19 scare, and people have moved onto other things. Meanwhile, the media seems intent on fanning the flames of fear by talking about how many NEW cases are suddenly showing up in places where quarantines have been relaxed.

When we went to went to Seattle to see the kids a couple of weeks back we actually ate out at a restaurant. Which felt like a slightly surreal and dystopic experience; the place being limited to one-quarter of its normal capacity, but only a handful of actual diners were present.

We live in the state of Washington. At one point, it had the greatest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the US. Currently, we are ranked 23rd.

Here in our country — all 2,183 square miles of it — we have had a total of 31 confirmed cases from a population of 31,000+. For perspective, that's akin to all of the USA having about 350,000 cases.

People "distance." They wear face coverings. They stay home as much as possible. Maybe folks don't like it, but it seems to be working.

In other parts of the nation, not so much. In the US, the situation is far from "under control."

In other parts of the world, some of the originally hardest hit countries seem to have dialed it in a lot more than we have:

I made this little composite of graphs of new Covid cases in larger western nations. Which one of these is not like the other?

I'm just a little tired of people behaving like immature children and idiots, all in the name of... what? "Freedom?" Mistrust of government? Offence at being told "what to do" by authorities?

I'm too tired to "soapbox" this one... and maybe that's what the media and pharma conglomerates in the US are striving for. In the meantime, however, I'm too young to die so I'm going to avoid going out, as much as possible...

Hope you're all staying safe, wherever you are!

Yeah, I know what you mean @belemo, sadly I don't think there's going to be a return to any kind of "normal." Seems too many people have too much stake in manipulating the "game" as part of their own personal power grabs.

I can understand the tiredness. I too am tired of all the bad behavior and selfishness I see. It is not limited to anyone country. It would see it is just as contagious as the virus itself...

Unfortunately, I have a feeling you're right. This does seem to be the Age of Selfishness, in some slightly twisted and sad way.
