Late Night Random Musings on the Current Stuff of Life (Ulog No. 53)

Once again, I find that it is 12:40 past midnight before I find myself having a moment to sit down and share a few words.

I'm not even sure I am "sharing" a few words, so much as just trying to empty my head of this-and-that before I head off to bed. Which, of course, pretty much is what a "Ulog" IS... I think.

The World is a Busy Place

I can't help but think that when we remark on how we "never have time" to do things, it's really a reflection of simply having agreed to take on too much; perhaps taking on too much in the original belief that we'd be able to handle more than can be reasonably expected.

Of course, that's not always true... sometimes we simply find that we are swimming in "slowly rising waters" that we have little control over. It's a bit like paddling your kayak up a stream on a sunny day, not knowing that there has been heavy rains 200 miles further inland , which is slowly making the river move faster and faster towards the ocean.

Maybe that's not a great analogy, but it's the best I've got, right now.

Anyway, it makes me kind of sad that I haven't had more time to keep up with my blogging here... but there's just "no time."

Memories, Resurfacing — The Enneagram

Mrs. Denmarkguy asked me for some information earlier today that ended up sending me down a rabbit hole to times gone by.

I used to be an active student of The Enneagram, using it not so much as a "Personality Typing Tool" but as a personal and spiritual growth tool.

Whereas I have never been a big proponent of so-called "labels" (I think it's too easy for people to "hide" behind them), I did always find the spiritual side of the Enneagram very useful... perhaps because it centers on rigorous self-inquiry, rather than simply handing you answers on a plate.

Which makes me think about how often people expect to find "magic pills" to solve the problems of their lives... the idea of actually doing the WORK seems almost abhorrent, to many.

And yet? We pretty much all want the benefits of having done the work.

I'm thinking I might go back to writing life explorations as seen through the lens of the enneagram. Wonder if there are any Enneagram Enthusiasts in Steemlandia?

And So, There was a SoftFork...

I have been reading the plethora of posts concerning this latest update... which seems to have been implemented not only very quickly, but without many of the hitches of past changes.

I have also been reading the various laments concerning this "Soft Fork" ranging from the idea that a bad precent was set, to outrage at the fact that a relatively small handful of people can make major changes to the community without people knowing much about it, in advance.

It's not a popular point of view, I know, but consensus driven systems have a way of trending towards some unhealthy form of communism if the "decision tree granularity" is allowed to become too small.

Which is a fancy way of saying that when you have too much "decision making by committee and public opinion," NOTHING tends to ever get done.

I do believe our community's witnesses acted in everyone's best interest, given the very limited information available to them. I just hope that a potentially cooperational relationship with Tron doesn't turn into an adversarial one.

Barking Up Imaginary Trees...

I have always found it pretty amazing how people can "re-invent reality" to suit their individual lenses of perception... and then make outrageous non-correlating claims in service of reinforcing that reality.

What the HELL did I just say?

You have to be mental to actually think that Bitcoin took a nosedive because Steem's witnesses implemented a softfork... would you like a tinfoil hat, too?

(And yes, I did really see that somewhere in a comment, today...)

Anyway, it reminds me a bit of a different discussion Mrs. Denmarkguy and I were having the other day, about how people will go to great lengths to protect their carefully constructed "Personal Mythologies" from getting infiltrated by actual facts.

Sometimes, to such an extent that the simple facts are treated like personal attacks and insults.

Just something to ponder...

Thanks for reading! I need sleep...

I do believe our community's witnesses acted in everyone's best interest, given the very limited information available to them.

When 17 people act in the 'best interest's of 0 or 30,000, without even discussing the option , you have to be a very trusting person.
(everyone acts in their own self interest, one way or another. 17 peoples self interest, in this case.)

I just hope that a potentially cooperational relationship with Tron doesn't turn into an adversarial one.

It already is adversarial, that boat sailed with the actions of the 'authoritarian 20'
I lived in Hong kong, and was doing business with the Chinese everyday for over a year. The mentality is so different than western perspectives.
It seems that many in these parts do not understand the east Asian, (specifically Chinese), mentality.

I'm not sure what this will mean for steem, but justin's plans will not have changed not one iota, because of this.

I DO know that this kind of behavior is seen as the lowest of the low, and disrespectful beyond belief. (from the east Asian perspective).

We need a new word to describe the actions of 'the 17' (18?).
Naive doesn't even come close.

I appreciate your perspective, as always!

In a sense, recent events point to the potential weakness — or Achilles heel — of true decentralization: The taking of action.

Yes, in the ideal world, everything is transparent and out in the open, and a broad consensus is reached. But that ends up becoming rather like a form of communism... if we have to "make decisions by committee," a potential "Bad Actor" can come in and bomb the party while everyone is busy discussing.

That's the part of decentralization I have never been able to make work. The ideal conveniently sidesteps human nature... a handful of greedy people can quickly overcome and usurp those who say "Well, let's talk about things and come to an agreement!" BANG! Now we're all dead, but at least we had the freedom to talk about things properly...

I guess I'm just not that attached to making that brand of "liberty" the centerpiece of my existence... feels too much like regressing down Mr. Maslow's hierarchy of needs...

I agree that this already has an adversarial subtext.

My "self-interest" is that I'm sick and tired of every blogging/social site that presents itself as an "alternative" to MSM seems to self-destruct and go down in flames, OR is usurped by people whose only interest is to exploit the system.

That leaves me contemplating the distinct possibility that the pervasive success of Facebook is actually just a statement that "The People Have Spoken" and Facebook is actually NOT evil, it is what the world WANTS. AT which point I just shake my head and realize that my best bet is to live in an isolated cabin in the woods and never talk to people again.

Of course, that's overly melodramatic...

LOL.
....One of the reasons I decided to live here. I speak little of the language, and can't read the text.
I have no advertising in my world. Now thats liberty!

Wonder if there are any Enneagram Enthusiasts in Steemlandia?

Well, I did read and knew something about Enneagrams and such. But to tell the truth not much. But after reading 'out there' a bit more about the subject to refresh my memory and once I finished to read the rest of your post. I could not avoid it, but this was the image and concept that came to mind. :)

Very encouraging to see you ulogging. Thank you. I shared my thoughts about the soft-fork earlier today but i didn't talk much.

Thank you for your presence of marlians.com

It will splendid that you can also join the ulogs community and post ulogs in it. You can invite others to join too! This is direct link:

What Is A Ulog?

A form of a content spanning across any topic or niche, that is created 'fresh' at every instance (i.e without resourcing from that internet), composed entirely of ‘excerpts of U’.

The word 'ulog' can also be used in terms of 'a web-space made up of ulogs'. Similar to how one would say, "i have a blog" or "i have a vlog"; one can say, "i have a ulog". However, a ulog possesses tenets that allows content-creators to 'consciously evolve their human', while reshaping the internet.

The letter 'u' seen in the word 'ulog', is synonymous to 'you'.
A ulog created today should not have existed anywhere on the internet yesterday.

@surpassinggoogle

The concept of 'ulogging' is a steem-born innovation.

If you desire, you can vote on the 'steemgigs' witness (if you haven't)!
