How Does God Speak To Us?
Ephesians 2:1 (NIV)
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
When you tell people you heard the voice of God, you get these stares because they would think "What's special about you that would make God speak to you?"
The truth is, God is eager to speak to us. He uses everything and even situations to speak to us because He loves us and He wants to direct us. Most of the time we just want to speak to God and we run off without listening to what He has to say regarding what we have already said to Him.
God knows everything. You need to deal with your logic and reasoning because most of the time, everything God will tell you will be against your reasoning and logic. He is the Alpha and the Omega, The Beginning and The End.
When God told Adam that the moment he eats of that particular tree He would die, it means human nature would not be able to fellowship with God - what powers our lives that made us fellowship with God would no longer be active or strong enough to power it.
The Spirit of man is what communicates with God's Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and looks for ways of delivering to us what God was thinking regarding the particular situation we require the help of God on. A dead phone cannot receive any call or have any signal. Ensure you are constantly building your human spirit to be in tune with the Spirit of God.
Hebrews 5:14 (NIV)
But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Holy Spirit knows what you need to do and what is expected of you. He delivers into your human spirit the intent of God's heart. Until we understand that being born again means we have access to the Spirit of God, we won't be able to do much. You can't develop a capacity to hear from God until you start building your human spirit and stay in tune with God. Just like a radio, if you don't tune to the frequency, how do you hear or pick the channel? Your human spirit has the capacity to know what God is saying.
3 things to do to develop your human spirit:
- Meditating on the Word of God. Put the Word of God in your mind.
- Obey and practice what the Word of God says. Let your logic and reasoning be kicked to the curb and do the things God asks of you. Remember the story of Abraham that was told to leave his father's house behind and that step of faith made God enter a covenant with him and he became the father of many nations.
- Prioritize the Word of God. Let the Word of God have a say in what you do. Don't do things blindly. Don't start anything without consulting with God in the place of prayer. He is the all-knowing God and He is the one that can direct your feet.
All we need is just a Word from God but most of us have stopped listening. We would rather pray and pray without hearing what God is saying back to us. Prayer is communication, just as speaking. It should be a two-way street and not one-sided. When you speak to God, search your spirit to know what the Spirit of God is delivering into your Spirit as a response. Not what you want to think but what God wants to say.
