Publishing on Web 3.0 - How does Hive Stack up?

avatar

Mirror is the next big change in the long history of symbolic communication. Through a decentralized, user-owned, crypto-based network, Mirror’s publishing platform revolutionizes the way we express, share and monetize our thoughts.

As part of my #rediscovercrypto journey I am looking at what is up and running in Crypto, what has materialised over the last few years. I am really excited to try out all the Dapps that are popular.

Mirror.xyz

This DAO project is interesting and would appeal to many on #hive. It's a decentralised writing platform and DAO on Ethereum for publishing content and raising funding.

Onboarding

You need to link your twitter account and a wallet then its fairly trivial to create a post.
My first post Entering Web 3.0

NFTs

A cool feature of Mirror is that you can turn your content into an NFT.

Editions are a way for creators to mint a limited supply of identical NFTs at a fixed price
...
Editions can be used to:
Mint digital collectibles
Create community memberships
Represent tiered rewards

Governance

I am still learning about the governance but they have a few interesting approaches in particular the write race which is a weekly competition to choose who gets membership of the DAO

Downsides

  • For a decentralised platform its actually difficult to find out about it. They have a website with very little info. You cant browse the content easily at the moment. Their discord doesn't give away much either. I came across a news article from June that said Union Square Ventures has invested $10m into it.

  • Gas Fees - These are a problem imo. To mint an NFT I tried to do a test and it was going to cost $105

How does #Hive Stack up?

Mirror might appeal to low volume high value content (like publishing a book) but in terms of opening up the publishing world to the masses #Hive is a long way ahead with #proofofbrain and #pal

If you are rediscovering crypto after an absence why not make a blog on Hive using the #rediscovercrypto and share with the community what you find.

Best wishes :-)

Cheers mate, good to be back. Thanks for stopping by.

The fees are ridiculous in ethereum. I tried buying an ens name and for a five dollar registration it costs over 100 dollars in gas. Makes no sense.
